I need to know if I am right here or am I the numpty.

Everday I travel through the junction below, travelling on the A44 from East to West. On the A44 there is a 2 lane entrance and single lane exit. There is also enough room to get 2 cars side by side on the roundabout.

www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=408750&y=239250&z=1&sv=408750,239250&st=4&tl=Grid+Location+408750,239250&ar=N&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf

Now I am used to avoiding numpties who enter the junction in the right-hand lane whilst indicating right, and then cut across my bows to continue on the A44. To be fair the A44 exit is stightly to the right of straight on but there is also a definate right turn exit.

Last night however a learner under instruction from a proper driving school did exactly the same thing. To me if you are continuing along the A44 then to enter in the right hand lane and indicate right is both wrong and misleading to other traffic. Or is it me.....

Indicating right in the right lane would suggest to me that that person is taking the 3rd exit, to carry on the A44 one should surely stay left with no indication until passing exit one?

Absolutly, the use of indicators and presumably the instruction on how and when to use them these days is crap. if you are going straight on at a roundabout you can use either lane and should indicate LEFT (after the sharp left in your example) to show your intention to leave the roundabout. Rich...

Don't know if its changed since, but when I was learning to drive I was taught that in this situation (unless otherwise indicated by signs, painted instructions etc) you could approach in either lane with no indicators, start indicating as you pass the 1st exit and then take the 2nd exit.

Not sure what's supposed to happen when 2 cars are heading for the same exit side-by-side and only one lane off the roundabout!

However, indicating right when approaching the r/b means you're off to the 3rd exit or beyond.

Looks quite straight on from the map. I guess it depends on the size of the first exit ...

Why not take up both lanes?

Winds me up when the numpty in front is still indicating right as they turn off the roundabout...

Guilty as charged!
In practice, the faster car (or least numpty-ish driver!) wins. Not sure what the theory is, though.

You'd be ok on a noisy motorway roundabout, though

Unless the right hand lane is marked with an arrow saying right turn only, surely the Highway code says you can use either lane to go straight on?

I know at least two drivers who always indicate RIGHT when going straight ahead at r/b's by the way - accidents waiting to happen in my opinion.

Nothing wrong with using the right hand lane to go straight on but the highway code also says keep left at all times unless otherwise indicated.

What always annoys me is when I'm going straight on in the right hand lane - 2 lane carriage way to 2 way carriage way - and the numpty on my left keeps on coming ... keeps on coming RIGHT to take the 3rd exit -- without ever indicating. Not sure which exit he wants so he keeps to the left until he finds one that he likes.

Bien sur in France it is even worse as once Monsieur le Numpty has got onto the roundabout, he will then proceed to exercise his priority from the right. Ouuch or you have to go around again with him.

GRO, I know this junction well and I have to say that I've carried on towards Evesham from either the left hand or right hand lane, depending on the level of traffic and the speed I'm approaching it. I think that the strict answer from the highway code is that you can do either but you will know that on the road it does feel like a right turn - it's certainly not a straight over.

Generally, I would take the left hand lane but if I'm fed up from being stuck behind a line of numpties doing 30 mph from the top of fish hill - it happens! - I'll generally hammer round from the right hand lane, indicating left after I've passed the Broadway turn. The roundabout itself is wide enough for two, you just have to make sure you get to the exit first!
