Reckon I may have got a ticket just now. Not sure what to expect as it is my first (11 years with clean licence).

Was doing 36-38 mph in a 30 zone and saw a flash go off ahead of me. Does this mean I have a got a ticket? Was the flash for a car coming the other way (as I thought you get flashed from behind - not from the front).

What sort of fine/points can I expect?

If the camera that flashed you was a standard Gatso (clear flash lens) and it was in front of you then you are in the clear!!

The cameras that can get you from the front generally dont flash and have a red lense and are called TruVelo camera's, first thing you know you get the letter on the doormat.

On the whole I really do think you are in the clear, but if that letter does arrive expect it to say SP30, 3 points and a £60 fine.

Matt.

gatsos flash you after you have passed them. If the flash was ahead of you, it sounds like it was a car going the other way that triggered it. I've triggered these things a few times over the last couple of year but have never received a ticket. I rarely speed too seriously, so if I'm setting the cameras off, I guess it means every 10th driver is doing the same and they're running out of film or just being ignored.

Thanks for that. Am feeling a little less angry with myself. I have always made a real effort to obey speed limits in built up areas.

I hope no points ensue as my insurance is already astronomical.

It's a hobby of some motorcyclists to speed towards Gatso's in the opposite lane to set them off. As bikes don't have front plates, they can't be identified. Sounds like a useful and rewarding passtime.

Standard Gatso - big square lens and bright white flash?

Hoorah!

I knew TVR ownership is costly - but I would rather spend the cash on bits that break rather than fines.

Hey you got a photo!
Is that without asking for it? Hmm shame you thought you'd got off, but don't worry. A lot of insurance companies will ignore 3 points, especially if you are already giving them a fair whack. (All good drivers have points on their licence didn't you know?)

I didn't ask for the photo - I have a few friends in the police and one of them actually does the cameras for the whole county - she found it highly amusing and was laughing when she told me it was set to 39mph and I was done at 39.1mph

"Yes, hilarious" I was thinking........

Those three lines are the tell-tale signs of a camera watching you.

It looked like a GATSO...but my friend says there are none in the whole county!!

Hard luck, this could happen to anyone.

The important thing is that you looked good while doing 39.1mph

It would be interesting to learn more about this camera, I thought TruVelo were the only ones that got you going towards them, and I don't believe they flash.
