Court for 100mph

Motorists caught doing over 100mph in South Wales can expect to be chastised even more quickly thanks to special hearings that will be held to deal with them. There's been a dramatic rise in  the number of drivers caught on camera driving at over 100mph. It seems that the authorities may be missing the point that this is merely due to the deployment of more cameras?

The penalty for exceeding 100mph can include up to six points, disualification for up to two months and fines of up to £2,500. Local authorities are looking at options for concentrating speeding hearings in one session and location in order to improve the efficiency of dealing with those that are caught.

AA road safety spokesman Andrew Harris said, "No-one would have sympathy for a motorist who has been driving at such a ridiculous speed and seriously putting other lives at risk."

Would 100mph be a ridiculous speed in Germany on derestricted autobahns which coincidentally have lower crash rates than our motorways? No.

What lives are being put at risk on empty motorways? None.

Mr Harris's statement is thus a pile of PC twaddle. I would have thought someone with a career in road safety matters would be more aware of speed related issues, basing his opinions on evidence rather than socially engineered PC spin.

I reckon that statements like these should be put out to response platform by the fwits that make them, maybe in the form of a public forum such as this, allowing us the people (the culprits and affected) an educated democratic debate about issues which affect us the plebs who pay their salaries, even more, put them into power… simply, a chance to put our thoughts to them, instead of their thoughts being forced upon us!!!

Not me, I'm not talking to them. They took £1000 out of my bank account over 14 years and I didn't even know I was a member, then they wouldn't give it back. Bastids.

Perhaps the numpties are putting themselves at risk by stubbornly refusing to look in their mirrors before changing lanes?

Taking Daz' point about the autobahns, slower cars get out of the overtaking lanes pretty quick smart when they see something faster approaching, leading to smoother traffic flow, less 'bunching' and hence fewer accidents (regardless of the high speeds).

Lets get plod to concentrate on lane discipline rather than speed.

The article does not state that anyone has been injured or even that there has been any accidents merely that some people have been making brisk progress.

makes me feel a bit sad that 100mph is regarded as ridiculous. Are we ever going to get away from the sickening "speed kills" slogan?

Andrew Harris would be a good start. Might be worth reminding him why the AA was set up in the first place - to help speeders break a nonsensical speeding law!

cheers,
Craig

Just sent this....I imagine carzee (aided by a coupla beers) could be more eloquent

Could someone please explain to me why Andrew Harris is allowed to make such sweeping generalisations and innaccurate public statements Quote "AA road safety spokesman Andrew Harris said, "No-one would have sympathy for a motorist who has been driving at such a ridiculous speed and seriously putting other lives at risk." Unquote" I was under the impression that the AA was a friend to the motorist and such knee jerk statements merely give fuel to an anti motorist government.

Add some more fuel to the fire - just sent this:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have just read an article quoting one of your employees -
"AA road safety spokesman Andrew Harris" and he is quoted in
an article about Motorists caught doing over 100MPH in South
Wales - he says:
"No-one would have sympathy for a motorist
who has been driving at such a ridiculous speed
and seriously putting other lives at risk."
I have always held your organisation in high esteem as championing motorists rights - indeed I have been a member on & off for the last 19 years, however if this is the sort of inaccurate generalisation & sweeping statement that you are now spouting, I don't think I will stay a member for much longer.
In the right conditions & on a motorway, it is perfectly safe to drive a modern performance car safely at over 100MPH (as any traffic cop will tell you - they do it!). Speed isn't the issue per se, driver training is!
Drivers should be tought to drive to the conditions, not a notional number on a sign that was decided when the MK1 Cortina ruled the roads.
This is the sort of spin devoid of substance that I would expect
from a government spokesman, not one of your employees.

No doubt this email will be binned, but I thought I should at least
let you know that your stance is diverging from many of your members
Any response is eagerly awaited....

yours sincerely
