Happened to catch one of those US cops shows the other day which threw up an interesting thought. Basically they stopped a guy at night for some generally seedy activity. Turns out he had been convicted for Drink Driving and had his license endorsed as "Business Use Only". Basically banned from driving except when driving in relation to you job. No sure if this is the same in all States, but struck me as great idea. It could mean for less serious offences you do not get an outright ban, stops your career getiing shafted anyway.....

Would make a lot of sense.. not sure how it works in practice. The veracity of claims of running a business errand would be particularly difficult to check. Particularly with the self employed.

The theory is fundamentally flawed methinks.

It goes: Someone is drunk whilst driving for pleasure therefore we'll make them drive for business only 'cos they'll never be drunk then. Now then CarZee, we've both had experience of working with Journos!

Hmmm.

Exactly - carte blanche to drink-drive..

Where's the flaw?

Here in Belgium you can receive a 2 week ban for excessive speeding. In this case, if it is absolutely essential for you to drive for work, you can take the ban in your holiday.

Same in Norway, A guy I used to work with took his R1 back home and got done for a very silly speed.

He could choose within a certain time period (Can't remember how long, Afew months though) when he served his ban, and wait fot it......... his 2 weeks in nick.
