"police are trying to track down the culprit of an unusual arson attack in the west last night.

A speed camera on the A36 near Black Dog Hill, Champanslade, Wiltshire , was destroyed after tyres were placed around the base and set on fire.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said the camera had been totally destroyed by the incident.

He added that the police would love to hear from anyone with any information ont he attack."

Is this a first for the UK? I've heard of shocking vandalism like this happening in Holland but never the UK.

Fair play to him - if he (assuming it was a bloke...) gets caught and he claims he was high on "legal" cannabis, will he get let off with a smacked wrist, or would this be treated as treason by the "speed kills" zealots??

Is it me, or is CarZee turning into Leslie Phillips / Terry Thomas? I've seen "old bean" and "chap" cropping up in posts too.

And lets not forget he was playing croquet last weekend.

I have a vision of Outlaw turning up at a Shell garage and nonchalently putting a litre of U95 in a tyre hanging over his arm

Minimum delivery is 2 litres though.

Oh, that only applies when you pay for your petrol.

Saw a couple of others on the A420 Swindon - Oxford... one decapitated and the other reduced to a pile of mangled metal by the roadside.

Terrible shame...

The favoured method around my way is black spray paint on the lens.

Spraypaint's a bit unsubtle - the bu**ers might spot it when they change the film in their luvverly roadside cashpoint. I suspect a squirt of Spraymount would do the job and give a lovely 'soft focus' effect...

Vaseline might be an an alternative - but I ain't going to be seen buying the stuff.

no a club hammer on the lens works wonders too

A club hammer eh? OK, if we're going for all out war, I reckon a decent angle grinder would get through the post that holds the little darlings up.

Alternatively, the favoured method round here seems to be using your Landie to stump-pull 'em out of the ground. Just leave 'em lying by the roadside as an example to their little grey friends...

This would work even better, but for this try to pick a route without to many speed humps or pot holes.
