Not big news but in a reader poll 78% were against more speed cameras across Cheshire. 22% for. Tw@ts.

Probably doesn't say a great deal about public opinion but its better than it being the other way around.

PS Just noticed a story on the next page, Four thugs who stole from an off lisence, caused criminal damage and beat up a policeman got between 3 and 6 months in jail, mostly served already on remand. Anyone remember the biker that got 12 months for videoing himself riding very quickly? Slight fcuk up there

That's actually a pretty impressive proportion - more than 3 times as many against them than for them. (Mind you what about the don't know/what's a speed camera?)

Think of it this way. The labour party got about 45% of the vote in the last election and has something like 65% of the seats in parliament. If they got 78% of the votes they'd have ... god knows how many but a lot (scary prospect ).

Thing is, for every point of view that you consider sensible, someone's going to have a different one. So 78% on something that's not seriously "intuitively obvious" is excellent. Hope it's repeated across the country.

By "intuitively obvious" I mean obvious to most people without having to engage their brain. Speed cameras in this case are actually the opposite. The no-brain view is:
speed kills - go slower - force people to go slower - use cameras - d'oh

what about the don't know/what's a speed camera?

When ever I see these "don't know" people in polls, it always bugs me how stupid they must be.

When I've been off work due to sickness and am forced into watching daytime cack TV they have polls like "Do you like cake" and still the nation has these "Don't know" morons ring up to say they dont know

Early morning rant over

Common sense rears its head at last - the public is finally realising thats its not the hooligans that get nabbed by these bised radar tax raisers, but average Joe Bloggs, just minding his own business, trying to earn a days wage. Get that copied and fax it to your MP....... see what he has to say about that!

The Cheshire statistic is not that surprising, about 80% of the populace over the age of 18 are drivers i.e.hold driving licences. Many must feel that the penalty of losing driving licence, hence possibly livelihood for 3 * doing 34 on a road that was 50 limit last week, is disproportioinate, cf thugs getting 340 gbp fine for knocking madcops teeth down his throat.

I have reminded my MP of the 80% are drivers statistic, and would encourage everyone to do so.
