Hmm. This does rather conflict with a report I read suggesting that one of these militant "Road Safety" groups were threatening legal action against the government for making cameras more visible.
Even more farcical is the alleged threat reported to have been made (by possibly the same group) against an individual suspected of vandalising a speed camera. Apparently they are demanding that this person should be charged with attempted murder! This is because 'saftey' cameras save lives and someone may die as a result of this appalling criminal act.

My MP responded to my fax (see SKY thread) and suggested that we were "winning the argument".
It will be worth watching to see if a sense of fair play does come back into these things.
I've sent him another arguing for cameras to be restricted to 30 limits as they are the most "dangerous". The nutters that whizz past my house at 50 or so could do with having their licences (and some other bits) surgically removed.

"NORTHAMPTONSHIRE: We checked all 28 cameras in the area, covering Brackley to Corby and Kettering. All were yellow on the front and back. None was hidden and all had warning signs."
Who the hell did the Sun send out to check the Northants Cameras? The Home Secretary?
Drove past one this afternoon (in the village of Harlestone), still has no markings on it at all. And I know of a couple of others locally that are cunningly hidden behind trees so as to be practically invisible when the leaves are out.
Does anybody know if the new rules cover cameras which will be hidden during "leaf season"? Or is this an intentional loophole left by the government so they can continue to generate revenue from these cameras during the summer and claim they are technically not hidden as they are visible in winter?

quote:EMail them - they're on a bit of a roll on this right now, so they may well point out the correction - they'll say that they've 'exclusively discovered some cameras which were unlisted', or that they've 'discovered they were mislead by the Coucil'.. but hey, that's the Sun for you.

Just been on to www.essexsafetycameras.co.uk/ via the Essex police site and guess what..... it doesn't work. It is nigh on impossible to find the rules and regs of Poxycheatingb*stardstaxcameras siting. If anyone knows where I can actually find this info I would be grateful as I wish to write and complain to the relative authority about the "from what I believe" dodgy placing of a tax camera. i.e. does behind a whopping great tree so that you can't see it till your next to it count as an illegal siting or do trees not count as an obstruction like road signs do? It's painted yellow though, which is Feck all use as you can't see it anyway!!!

Try www.abd.org.uk/site_audit_form.htm

err, just because the new rules hint that cameras *should* be painted brightly, in the words of Mr Wilson - you're still nicked if they get a picture of you. The whole thing of colour is a bit of hype as they can set up a mobile trap and claim it was any colour they like. You just try to argue with it...
