I have had a bad day having been caught on the same stretch of road by two different Traffic lads with the mobile speeding cameras, (blind idiot I know!!!).
Question for Madcop or John Robson really as my memory of this has faded. Assuming the NIP turns up for both will I be processed for speeding twice on the same stretch of road at different times of will they (I hope ) be regarded as one offence, There was an hours difference between the two.
Just a note, the second occassion the operator was hidden behind a bush in a plain blue shirt no florescent jacket, a bit off side I think and does nothing for the Police's public relations.

Sorry to here your bad news phil.
The bad news is that you will probably receive two sets of summons.

I dont think we have got as far as T.I.C. in this arena as you would have if you had burgled 2 seperate houses an hour apart.

I agree that the second one was a bit sneaky and against policy.

Health and safety issue for the cop doing the check. Try writing about the second one and explaining the circs.

Its possible they may drop it.
Best of luck.

Cheers Steve,
It might have to go down to experience just smarts a bit having no points. Might pop a letter in regarding the lack of safety clothing and see what happens, I take it from memory they are suppposed to be visible and wearing suitable atire when opperating the cameras.

I dont know what policies are stated in every force but I do know that when conducting speed checks they should have the proper reflective clothing on, for their own safety more than anything. I think there may even be ACPO guidelines on this as well.

Did he stop you by standing in the road without the proper garb?

If so a strategically worded letter to the traffic Supt may well go a long way to help!

No he didn't stop me and judging by what he was wearing I would have thought he was a civvy. West Yorkshire civvys now wear blue polo type shirts with the force badge which is what he was sporting. Now can a civvy operate these speed cameras?

Do I read this right madcop? If you are caught burgling two houses an hour apart you only get charged with one offence? What does TIC stand for?

(Not that I'm making plans you understand )

Yes you do read it right. If an offender does a spate of criminal acts within a short time, say within a few hours of each other or over the period of a few weeks. when they are interviewed about the offence for which they have been arrested and because of M.O. (Modus Operandi. The way in which they work) or other evidence such as forensic, is found. Then, in relation to the other offences or they just say " I would like to start with a clean sheet" coughing all the other previously linked jobs. They are normally charged with one or two specimen charges and the rest are T.I.C. (taken into consideration) by the court.

That means that they are not punished for admitting their guilt and strangely commended for their honesty

In answer to Phil on the civvy side. I am not sure that civvies can operate the laser/camera systems but I wouldnt be surprise as civilianisation is becoming more prevalent.
Unsure about the two witnesses though as Police Officers are considered experts on speed . Speeding needs corroboration from two experts (police), or a Police Officer and mechanical device.

...or the radar equipment within a GATSO and a civvy checking the photos.

bad luck Phil.
Madcop, are you really saying that "criminals" get treated better than motorists?

Sounded like it to me, which is a bit of a worry... shouldn't someone write this up in a newspaper or something?

I would like to say that the answer is a resounding 'NO'

The reality is that if you are a generally law abiding decent person who lives in his/her own house, pays his/her taxes and works to support him/herself in the manner that he can afford. When you err against the laws which are likely to affect you i.e. motoring then you are severely dealt with. More so than in comparison than those who are 'less fortunate' to be in that postition.

Wait for part ones to arrive for both offences. They'll differ in that some of the details such as time etc... will be different. Photocopy one and send two identical ones back (having filled them in in different coloured pen and a day apart). Send both by recorded delivery because you are a good citizen who wouldn't say boo to a goose.

Result: Some progress will be made before the computer or yourself indicates the other is still outstanding. You innocently point out that you sent two back (and can prove it) because you are a good citizen and thought you ought to even though they were the same.
Allow them to naturally arrive at the conclusion that there's been a admin cockup somewhere and let you off the other.

Well its worth a try..although you try it first old boy.
