I read many posts and threads about the 'NUMPTY' and how much rage they instill throughout PH contributers.

Anyone ever considered that yourselves may well fit into that category at least some of the time whilst out on the road.

I am very experiencerd and highly trained but occasionally I could well fit into this category.

I see hundreds of these specimens daily on the roads.
ARE ANY OF THEM YOU?

Since I've learned the definition of the term numpty - OK, I stop that

I suppose the range has a numpty on one end, and a tailgater on the other.
Every individual is somewhere between that:

numpty-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_tailgater

(mark your position with an 'X')

Have to admit, while I do think I'm a pretty good & safe driver when I'm concentrating, I'm undoubtedly a numpty when I'm not. Do I concentrate all the time? Do I hell.

Does anyone? Er, no, I didn't think so either. Most people, concentrating, are reasonably good I'd have thought. Most people, thinking about what they're going to say to the wife/husband/whatever when they're late home AGAIN, are not.

...Unless of course you are a numpty tailgater

In answer to madcop...
I find that my driving style is different based on vehicle o' the day. I tend to be a little more "numpty" with the wife's S-type (and kids in the car), whereas the Esprit makes me the ruler of the universe, master of the space time continuum, etc, etc...

Good point on the 'concentrating' side of being a numpty or otherwise. Anyone else out there agree with me that they concentrate far harder at higher speeds on the motorway than at lower speeds - meaning that they are probably safer drivers when they drive faster?

Plus that Numpty in front of you could be the mother/father of a PHer. I know my parents would fall into that category - so anyone in North Suffolk gets stuck behind an old dear in a White 'R' reg Passat - thats my mum!

Thats easy - "Sorry I'm late dear, got stuck behind a bunch of numpties, and as Speed Kills, and I know you want me to be safe and sound, I just had to sit behind them til I got home........."

Can't agree more. The ADAC (german auto club) did some research on this and found that speed limits (idiotically policed controlled gatsod etc) actually caused 3 time MORE accidents due to lack of attention.
People too busily looking at their speedos to pay attention to the road. On a stretch of motorway near here which was reduced from an unlimited to a 120kph limit, the accident rate multiplied by 5 within the first year.
Oh yes... the FATALITIES went down from 3 to 2 single fatalities(!!!) the green slime said there you are proven; but the other smashes increased by 5 times, Yes 500%!!!!! The green slime didn't answer that when questioned in the local offices.... wonder why!!!

I just know that driving on an unlimited autobahn at the speed I choose whether it be 130kph or 130mph or more is much easier than driving at a numpty 70mph with a gatso behind every bridge......

Gosh, wouldn't have expected that! Slight increase maybe yes.
