Just got home to find an nip asking for who was riding the bike , no photos with it i was caught doing 83 in a 60 limit is this just 3points £60 or more ? i need my license for my job

Unlucky. If you reply telling them who was driving, they'll write back saying you're off to court or they'll offer you a fixed penalty of £x quid (usually 60) and 3 points.

Sounds like a 3 pointer, but maybe our Police Officer bretheren could give us a better idea?

I wont mind the points too much and they can use the £60 for packing out the fat controllers arse but i cannot afford to loose my license if that happens im cattle trucked

I have just read that this should have come by recorded delivery but it came in the normal post , you never know might not have got here

I was always told to send the NIP with the 'name the driver' form by recorded delivery.

Popping it in a manilla envelope and dropping it in the letter box at the end of a shift, or generating it by computer and relying on the post clerk to put in the post has no evidence or record other than the person who posted it saying they did.

There is a number of options for service which should be printed on the rear of the form.
From memory they are
1.Personal service.
2. Leaving it with a person at the last known address
3.Via recorded post.

Unless it has changed recently then I would explore this avenue.

I would imagine that you will receive the offer of an FPT for that sort of speed rather than a court appearance.

You only have to worry if you are in danger of totting up on the points.

I got a NIP by normal post. It was a van-on-a-bridge Norfolk safety team job. Maybe they send them differently. I paid mine £60 and 3pts cos' it was a fair cop.(94 in a 70)

Madcop/JR - can you remind me how long points stay "active" on your licence. Is it 2 or 3 years?

Points are valid for 3 years and can be removed after 4 years from date of conviction not offence.

I've got 6 points at the mo, but looking at my license, the date of offense is printed on, but the date of conviction is blanked out.

Therefore, 4 years after the date of the offense, I shall be applying to have the points removed.
