If you have, let me know as I think I know where it is. Better be quick though as the back window's open, as are all 4 doors, radio seems to have gone and parking could've been better. Actually "parking"'s a bit of a misnomer as it's at 45 degrees to the pavement with the front wheel jammed against the kerb. Oh and someone's taken your tax disk too.
Does rather look as though it's been "borrowed" for someone & his mates to go for a bit of a spin.
Problem is, it's "parked" about a foot from my Chim. (I'd move mine but spaces are at a premium round here). The police have been notified and have had a quick look at it but it hasn't been reported as stolen yet and they say it's not causing enough of an obstruction to be moved by them. I'm a bit concerned that someone will come barrelling down the street (an ambulance route and rat run) and hit it. It's not in too bad a condition externally at the moment so it'd be a shame if it's stripped before it's reclaimed or removed - bit of a pity if the council were to crush it too. If it did get hit from behind, the Chim might not come out unscathed either.
...So, what should we do? If recent experience is anything to go on it will be at least a month before the council shift it. What would John Robson, Madcop etc make of it?

Check to see if the ignition barrel has any damage to it. Is the barrel hanging under the steering collumn? If it is then it is more than likely an SMV.
If it is SMV then the owner will have been informed of its location and the state it was in after the Police visit. A marker is put on PNC that it is 'abandoned and found'
If it doesn't appear to have said damage then get onto the council as Rob above says. If it is on public land then they can have it removed within 7 days of attaching an order to it (7 day notice).
The more you hassle the local authority about it, the quicker the notice will appear.
In the mean time if you can gain access to it as Rob says with a witness, try and straighten it up so that it is not such an inconvenience.

Thanks for the advice chaps, I'll give the council a ring. It looks a bit tricky to move ourselves without getting in and taking the handbrake off etc as it's so heavy; the lady at the police station advised against this in case the steering lock operated with the car in the road. There's not much room to manoeuvre and the front wheel hard up against the kerb doesn't help. Might have another look this evening - if it's still there then...!

Just a question
If this car was abandoned and in good (fairly) condition, would someone be allowed to claim it, have it fixed and re-registered ?. I have seen a couple of pretty cool looking vehicles seemingly abandoned and left for dead! Would be great to get a banger and do it up for track days

For alexr, If you know someone with a trolley jack this can be pu to good use.
If you know someone with two trolley jacks, even better.
Years ago I had to deal with a domestic dispute between a supercilious Estate Agent and his Neighbours who were a BMW dealership.
The Mechanics used to wind him up by re-parking his car for him in areas that he couldn't possibly remove it from
( he was an A******e). I know they did it with trolley jacks.

Now that is what I call a constructive use of a trolley jack! Hats off to them, and to you, Steve, for sharing that one. Makes me wanna nip off to Halfords right now and then go cruising the estate tonight! OK, perhaps not!
