Just a general question, I was coming anticlockwise southwards on M25 yesterday and was just (about 2 miles) north of heathrow, There was a big gantry with a huge 50mph LED on it. The traffic was doing some heavy braking but on looking back I couldnt see any cameras like on the other gantries south of heathrow.

Anyone know if this has a camera or not?

not sure but probably. the M25 cameras are well disguised into the back of the gantries, look nothing like usual gatsos. if in doubt, brake....

They have increased the size of the variable speed limit section recently (well 8-10 months is new for me). Not by much, but expect it to increase further in the comming months.

The guide is as follows:

1) Red Circle around the limit - ENFORCEABLE - i.e. stick to the speed limit
2) Yellow square around the limit - ADVISORY - i.e. normal standard motorway signs

If it is enforceable then expect there to be speed cameras. Otherwise you are OK.

Cheers,

Paul

Used to be from A3 (J10?) to M4 (J15?) - it's now A3 to M40 (J16?)

I'm pretty sure it was north of the M40 but it did have a red circle around it.

Good clue is to look at the gantry on the opposite carriageway. The cameras seem to alternate but the road markings are always there as a threat.

As said, suggested you keep to the posted limit. There are no consistent rules. Apart from 'hide state incompetance' and 'make more money'.
Remember, these Gatsos can easily be replaced by GSM ones that don't need film. Just an extra line in the Ken Livingstones LOB that says 'easy money'.
