Foreign Drivers
Discussion
I live with my Dutch girlfriend in the UK, both of us being fully insured for my 993.
If the car was to get flashed by a camera (as opposed to pulled over, where it would be quite obvious who was driving), does anyone know what the result would be if we were to confirm that she was driving (she holds a full Dutch (European) licence)?
I'm aware that she can probably get fined, but can she also get points/ban on a foreign licence?
Not that I am intending on lying to the plod, it's a theoretical question......

Apparently, Euro licences can't have points in other Euro countries. In all my experience, the foreign driver has never been given points, neither here nor in Spain. In Spain the British driver had to pay the fine but no other trouble. In the UK, when flashed by Gatso, the feds dropped the penalty altogether when they found out it was a Spanish driver. Didn't even ask for proof.
Either way, blame it on the girlfriend and if in the end she does get the points (pretty confident she won't, but for arguments sake) at least you'll have 3 points less to worry about!! No, seriously, blame it on her, give a dutch address and they'll probably drop it, but DO try to pay the fine as the more people that get away with this and NOT pay the fine the more likely it will be for the government to start to address the problem. At least if you pay it, they'll be happy that the revenue is still coming in, which is IMO all they are after anyhow!

Right, hands up who went on some sort of "Exchange" trip as a teenager, where you were buddied up with some foreign kid you'd never met in the interests of furthering your education, and their family had to put you up for a week.
Seems there could be benefits with having a foreign "associate" in other areas...

The EU is working on an EU-wide points system, so that any points awarded within the signatory countries can be totted up, it should be coming into force soon, (i.e. Mid 2003) so watch it....... especially on hols!!!
