Making 1 hour TV documentary within next two weeks for channel 4 on speed camera policy in UK. Urgently looking to talk with anti-camera persons who involved in campaign to put the cameras out of action. The documentary is attempting to articulate this end of the debate (guaranteed anonymity). Please feel free to pass on word to your friends and acquaintances who might be able to help in this regard. Need to find quickly. Looking too for exisiting video of previous incidents. Please contact on email or phone 0207-313-6733 for more info. Many thanks in advance for any assistance and cooperation.

Considering its criminal damage, I would have thought anonymity would be a prerequisite!

I am sure you will find many on this site who are anti-camera. Some of whom may even be slightly amused at the odd bit of Road Tax Camera vandalism. But you aren't going to find nutters who condone illegal activity such as actively destroy Government property. And I resent the fact that you thought you find them through this site, frankly - although I do understand that you have to look for them somewhere.

Frankly I am concerned by the wording of your request title that the documentary you will make will be sensationalist and counter-productive - in that it will simply make those who believe that not all our speed limits are reasonable out to be uncaring individuals who drive dangerously for the sheer hell of it and don't consider the consequences of their actions.

With respect to automotive enthusiasts such as you will find here this could not be further from the truth.

If you are looking for individuals who will express concern at the poor or even cynical placement of these devices you will probably find them here. You will likely find those who would prefer to make our roads safer through driver training. You will not find irresponsible vandals.

Can I suggest you contact the ABD (Association of British Drivers) who I am sure can provide an eloquent spokesman who will put forward a reasoable point of view with respect to Speed Cameras.

I would prefer not to see some poorly lit idiot who can barely speak go on about how he and some chaps burned a camera for a laugh.

Thanks your reply... To assure you, the title in this email is not the title of the report.
I have put this advisory on a number of site dealing with the speed camera issue and not just your site.It was not meant to imply condoning by merely seeking to talk to those involved which on a grass roots level is one end of the debate. We will be giving vent to the debate on all sides. But as you can expect those involved in placing cameras out of action are the most difficult to find to get their views on.

Cheers and thanks.

Calm down a bit Don... I'm sure there are many of us who have thought they would willingly take a buzz saw to some of the "bandit" Cameras placed in positions where they are quite clearly intended to generate cash rather than for any safety reason. Number one to get the chop would be on the A303 just past Andover where, having queued up for hours behind caravans and artic's they go and place a camera half-way up the hill on a decent 3 lane overtaking section just before it narrows down to single lanes again - daylight robbery!

I agree in that I hope it is an intelligently presented program rather than a “Peckham Chain Saw Camera Massacre” type thing but I for one am delighted that at last, perhaps, the weight of public opinion is swinging in the direction of drivers. Rich...

Squadron Leader Harry 'Rambo' Henderson decides to pay a visit to the camera that caught him speeding last month.

On the contrary; I thought Don was reasoned, eloquent and erudite.

Oh Christ, it was only a throw away comment and a chance to post a funny picture of what I'd like to do to every speed camera in the country (well, perhaps not in Scotland ) Rich...

Its ok Rich - I just wanted to get 'erudite' into a conversation as I know CarZee likes using obscure words.

Have to support Don on this one. If the media blacken the name of us motoring enthusiasts by suggesting that not only do we break the law speeding, but routinely indulge in acts of criminal damage as well the numpty brigade will ululate vociferously for our bodily fluids, and the government will oblige gleefully.

If on the other hand, the programme can put across in sensible strightforward terms the same points that Quentin Wilson made on fifth gear the other week :-

ie
1972 road tax in 12 billion
1972 road spending 12 billion

2002 road tax revenue 38 billion
2002 roads spending 7billion (? or similar)

Then we might start to see the beginnings of a rational debate.

Really the program should focus on the woeful state of driver training, and kill off the 'speed kills' simplistic approach that irritates us all so much. At the same time exposing the blatant revenue collecting policy that is being followed at the expense of actual safety.

P.S. ululate is there just for you jon

I find having www.dictionary.com open in another window helps when reading CarZee's messages.

Nice one. I'll get that into the word list for the next version of www.autoinsult.com/

The funny thing is that a large number of the words in dictionary.com's "Word of the Day" archives are already in AutoInsult. I will have to have a trawl through there and see if I can pick out any more gems.

I'm calm now, Rich...I've seen too much crap in the media lately and the last thing I want is woeful misrepresentation of enthusiasts views by lumping us in with the crims!

Oh. And I know this camera. Agree totally. An *imaginary* bazooka has been fired at it more times than I can count....

I agree with Don. You won't find vandals on this site.

You may, however, find some in the Netherlands...

Shame they can’t get Quentin Wilson to present this programme. His items on 5th Gear concerning the contumelious anti-driver policy of this government have been excellent. His pharisaical, style suits it very well. Rich…

As long as this isn't a Police ruse to catch out all the hardened criminals, who are so frustrated with this govt's holier than thou attitude, and complete lack of respect for the people and the democracy they are meant to be serving, then I hope some guys are prepared to respond, and hopefully give us a phone number and supply a few rocket launchers!!

Why not? I'm starting to feel paranoia here ...

Oh of course - you've obviously realised that ours are all placed solely with safety in mind, only on the accident blackspots and never with revenue generation in mind

Ever driven up the A90 from Dundee to Aberdeen? B@st@rds.
