Mine's pathetic, but at the other end of the spectrum. An alleged 123 in a 30 on a Yamaha YPVS 350, on a closed trading estate on a Saturday afternoon, in the early 90s. Nothing came of it, even though it was probably about right.
Was it a F1/F2 or a N?This prompted me to have a look for the very few bike pics I have, found more than I thought I had.......
Kawasaki AR125, first bike. I was 18 in this pic.
My first 350 after passing my test. I was 20. Look at the clip of me there. WTF is going on with my hair!
Same bike a year or so on at the famous Westgate hill in Newcastle. It's gained a few bits, fairing, Allspeeds etc.....
My first and most beloved YPVS. My favourite bike out of everything I owned........this was the one that got me into trouble that Saturday......
Even had my lid painted to match this one........
This came up front ended. I had it jigged, put forks etc on it. Turned out it had some mad tune on it that I didn't know about when I bought it, seem to remember seeing an indicated 140mph on this....
I took these pics on the day I was finished repairing it. I was working in the paint section of Custom Lids on Westgate Hill by this time, so I prepped the fairing etc and it was painted and put back together the previous day, finishing touches that morning........
This was the little bd that pretty much finished it for me with bikes. I stacked it at fairly high speed on a road just off the A1, near where the Angel of the North is now. Broke my neck in 2 places and damaged a carotid artery which subsequently blocked some years later and left me with blackouts and temporary blindnes in one eye for a few months until it was diagnosed........4 tablets a day for the last 18 years. Evil handling thing on 16 inch wheels, it turned in ok, but it wasn't what you might call stable or trustworthy. I had to replace the engine among many other things after the shunt, the impact snapped the end of the crank off.....
I had 3 years off after this, then tried again with an import CBR400, but I wasn't the riderI had been and didn't wan't to ride if I couldn't be quick, so that was that. I'd got to the stage where I always felt like I might have another off.
Sorry for the OT, got carried away having a blast down memory lane. The years I had with bikes were the best of my life.

Can you copy and post this in Biker Banter.
I fear we have rather a lot in common. As a taster, I wheelied my RD 500 into the back of a car on Westgate Road on 2nd June 1990. (I have the producer for that also)
I'm happy for it to go into Biker banter, but I'm unfortunately too stupid to know how to relocate it there. If you know what you're doing on that score, feel free to take it there. I have a feeling I would have witnessed that accident or certainly have been on the Hill if it was a Saturday, and possibly through the week if I was already working at Custom Lids. How did it end, did you repair the bike? And did you come out of it ok?
BTW, do you remember the bike copper, Johnson? Hated and avoided by many, but for whatever reason he and I really hit it off. He could have nicked me half a dozen times, but he always let it go. The first time he stopped me, his parting words were " My name's Johnson, spelt B A S T A R D and if you keep riding like that you'll be seeing a lot of me ". Genius.

One of our local councillors, who is good friends with my wife's sister, got done for speeding in a 30.
She told my sister in law it was 31 in a 30.
My sister in law refuses to believe that there's a strong possibility she's lying through her teeth.
I went as far as saying "unless you've seen the notice of intended prosecution, with 31 clearly stated, then your friend should be judged as a liar"
My wife uses this "fact" this totally believable 31 in a 30, to chastise me, for setting the cruise control at 74 n a 70 when the GPS on Google maps is displaying 71 mph. Apparently I'm definately going to loose my licence.
Someone on my speed awareness course claimed this as well. It was in one of the London tunnels, a point where it curves and multiple streams of traffic join, its apparently an accident blackspot. The course leader said sometimes the police will set a camera on the nose and then look at reducing the speed limit if accidents continue to occur. She told my sister in law it was 31 in a 30.

The rest of us followed the 10% plus 2mph rule though. I was caught going 48mph in a 40mph zone. It’s the only speeding ticket I’ve had. I generally stick to the limit in areas I don’t know as I find it less stressful.
One of those village speed limit squads seemed very disappointed I slowed to 30mph right at the gateway to their village and I didn’t speed up on my way out until I hit the NSL sign.

The only pathetic thing about 46 in a 40 is complaining about getting caught
Hardly. I agree with OP - not exactly crime of the century is it.Pit Pony said:

One of the other lads that came to one of the reunions had an LC500 ( still had it when we met up all those years later ), but had hurt himself pretty badly on it. Ronnie, nickname was Smeg I think?

Yeah, I had a reunion with a few lads from the hill a few years ago, and Chris was there, along with Robbie Dixon and a few of the lads from Gateshead that I used to knock about with back then. We did another one the following year at Robbie's pub in Bolden Colliery, Chappers, the other lad that was one for wheelying the length of the hill ( black 350LC with an alloy Metmachex swinging arm, then he went on to a GPZ900 ) turned up to that among others.

Yep, I've met all the lads you mention and did the Birtyley thing too.I used to get to the valley and occasionally participate in the racing after Birtley caff on Saturday nights after a day on the hill, such great memories.
Great times that will never be repeated.

I wasn't but I remember hearing abbot a kerfuffle.
I heard great things about the meets at Tranwell woods near Morpeth but sadly that was all done bar the shouting by the time I was getting started with bikes. Also, rarely made it to the Mayfair in Newcastle city centre, although I used to get in The Farmers Rest, Percy, etc, all bikers bars back then.Heaveho said:

Tranwell is just a couple of miles from me, I started going by Pushbike then got the summer there on my Fizzy before it was closed in early 1983.Friends who are just a couple of years older than me have great photos from there, I posted one a week back of him on One wheel on his 6 Cylinder Honda.
This should really be in BB.

32 in a 30.
Many years ago now, this wasn't Police enforcement but a group of old folk in a village that had been given a high viz and a radar gun loitering at a bus stop, so got a letter on yellow paper asking me to think about my speed followed by a guilt trip on the possible repercussions of my reckless actions.
I guess the Police must have posted the letter to get my address, unless they'd seen my car parked at home? No mention of police or DVLA on the letter.
It did give us a laugh.
But it didn’t happen did it…Speedwatch use 35mph as the minimum recorded speed as per Police guidelines. If you were caught, presumably at 35mph, perhaps you should be thinking of how on earth you missed people standing on the side of the road in high vis jackets. Many years ago now, this wasn't Police enforcement but a group of old folk in a village that had been given a high viz and a radar gun loitering at a bus stop, so got a letter on yellow paper asking me to think about my speed followed by a guilt trip on the possible repercussions of my reckless actions.

Love contributions like this, I'm sure you like your High Viz. Thanks.
It's quite an odd place, PH. We are all car enthusiasts and our experiences are wide and varied and yet when we tell a self-confessed tale of speeding, traffic violations or even just a general interest story there is always someone ready to attack, vilify or just be overly sanctimonious. The site no doubt attracts its fair share of bluffers and chancers but even so, the constant bickering is quite surprising. And boring, frankly.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
