Has to be one of the straightest 20mph zones in Wales, he must have been distracted too!
And then some. As you enter it you can see the pink tarmac at the other end. It's only around 250 yards up the road ffs.
West to east - https://maps.app.goo.gl/UCAbY4NV1iN2BB7V7
Opposite way - https://maps.app.goo.gl/oc34svZagW7xZrUA9
Assuming a clear road, he lopped ~12 seconds off his journey time.
The cost to him: around £2.80 per yard or £58.80 per second!

Well perhaps someone has found a way around the 20mph limits in Wales -

https://www.itv.com/news/wales/2024-06-27/labour-a...

A plate stuck on top of the one fixed to the car... hmmm...

And one being untaxed and overdue, and the other not being registered at all... hmmm...

This after a previous Labour MP and her brother thought speeding and blaming it on a Russian ex tenant was the way to avoid such fines.

No doubt its all a massive misunderstanding, she had just mounted her spare number plates on there for safe keeping and a screw appears to have failed.

to be fair (and I hate being fair to these people) it is entirely possible that a mischief-maker has popped fake-plates on in the hope of this outcome...

An extra £5m has been allocated to reassess the speed limit on 20mph roads, the Welsh government has announced.

...

The Welsh government said it expected most changes from 20mph to 30mph to be on A and B roads "which are typically main or strategic roads" and "away from places that attract frequent pedestrians".

So, she'd bought a private reg and instead of removing the old plate someone had just stuck the new reg on top? Lazy, but not illegal.

Who in this thread swore that their mate down the pub said there was no funding? laugh

Always was the intention to have some changes later on.

Let's hope those Councils who were told it was permanent didn't go throwing those old 30 signs in the bin then.

Spoiler alert: they did

Sorry to spoil your spoiler alert. Some of those ‘30 signs’ still exist beneath a 20mph reflective central sticker.

which will likely not peel off properly rendering the old signs unfit for purpose, another nice little earner for someone

You will note the last paragraph. Which means no increases will be made.

So now we are going to spunk another £5m to not change anything, just so it can all be blamed on councils.

No speed limits will increase. It's as plain as day.

It boggles my mind how short sighted the decision was to introduce such severe speed reductions across the country. My observation from a recent trip to Wales, was that the consequence of this aggressive speed reduction had made the average, law abiding citizen, comfortable with routinely breaking the law - certainly not something any government could consider a desirable quality in a country's constituents.

MP's can talk about roads deaths, but what about the cost implication in terms of peoples wellbeing by introducing
oppressive constraints on peoples liberties in an already economically and socially challenged area? Is making Wales a less attractive place to live or work a pre-requisite to economic and social prosperity?

Its supposed to be oppresive, and to make life that little bit more difficult for everyone. That is the whole point of it.

In times gone by the government was there to male things better. Sadly, those days a long gone. Not just in wales either.

They don’t want you driving.

They’ve instructed you not drive. If you don’t do as you’re told, they will go further. 10mph will be next, there have already been calls for that.

They don’t care about economic growth or prosperity, the only prosperity they are interested in is their own.

All of this ^^^^

If they wanted growth and prosperity, then they could do things that achieve that. Its not a secret how to do these things, it generally well understood. They choose instead, to do the opposite. Emphasis on "choose".

I think that whilst 10mph might be called for, a blanket reduction of NSL speed limits will be next.

If you had said that a few years ago you would have been shot down as a conspiracy theorist, now its quite refreshing to see how many members of the ordinary public agree with you and can now see what is happening.

There is a push to stop mass movement and to erode the individuals freedoms. Its being packaged up under the banners of safety and the environment but the main goal is control and limiting how far people can travel and gather.

Its very sinister.
