So let me get this straight.

You got pulled over last month, given a NIP roadside. You handed over your license with your current address on it.

The NIP was then sent to an address you lived at 2 years ago?

Well yes, basically...other than it wasn't a NIP as such...he gave me a ticket which he wrote out using the address on my license (which was correct) and which I have a yellow copy of. I presume Agtlaw was referencing the use of 'NIP' in your question when he answered 'No' wink

Hi there...yes you're quite right...it isn't a NIP ... it's a conditional offer of fixed penalty. It gives me the option of accepting the FP or disputing in court. My bad.
Warning > TOR > COFP.

For what it's worth

I was stopped roadside for speeding in Feb by an unmarked astra.

Anyway, my understanding is I received the nip there and then, and am now waiting for their central ticketing unit to decide what to offer me.

As I handed them my licence and haven't moved in over a decade, I'm expecting this to be posted to my address

I expect this to arrive in August on the cusp of the 6 month timeline. I'm expecting the offer of 3 points/£100 as it was a bit too nippy for a speed awareness course, but not enough for a visit to a magistrate.

If the offence is February and you are sent a COFP in August then the time limit to prosecute would expire before the deadline to pay.

It's 2024 so, unless you receive a COFP, expect a SJPN rather than "a visit to a magistrate."

OP I had this when I moved out of my old flat not long before lockdown. Old NIP got sent to the old address, I didn't see it, follow ups got sent etc. I had updated my licence, V5 and insurance to my new address. Fast forward to August of 2020, I get a court summons sent to my new address.

I contacted the SJP on the number listed, did some forms and declarations over the phone and it was all sorted. I temporarily had points for failing to provide info so don't think it will be forgotten! Keep asking them for it so you can get the points and fine otherwise it'll be a whole kerfuffle like I had.

You won't receive an offer of a fixed penalty on the cusp of six months. If you do, simply ignore it as no court proceedings can begin until the 28 days you have to accept the offer has elapsed.

Most forces will not offer a fixed penalty beyond four months from the date of the offence. I would suggest that if you haven't received an offer by now it's either been lost in the post or has not been made at all. In either case, the next you should hear will be a SJPN. They have six months to issue this so you may not receive it for a week or two after that.
