And as we know the mythical NIP for anything less than 10% + 2 remains a myth
What does that mean?
That means that noone has been able to give documentary proof that they have been done at a speed under speed limit+10%+2mph
Myth busted? As received by myself this week.

The "speed limit + 10% + 2mph" is normally the point at which proceedings may start.

Which means you will 'normally' be ok at "speed limit + 10% + 1mph". Anything more and you will 'normally' get a ticket of some kind.

Which assertion is confirmed by the 'ticket' above.

I am alright Jack

which is why I specifically said done at a speed under limit+10%+2. As has been pointed out 57 is not under 50+5+2!

My turn for one of these new fangled courses this afternoon. I've had a clean license for about 30 years so this course is an embarrasing insult to my scamera van observation skills (It was dusk and I thought they go home in poor visibility) spotted it too late on an empty A64 in York, my bad.

Observation skills? If you observe it, it's too late, Shirley?

That was similar to me and I'd managed to go 34 years without getting caught. I was angry/frustrated/embarrassed if I'm honest, but in the end I actually really enjoyed the speed awareness course much to my surprise though!

Sat a motorway awareness course on Zoom a couple of months back. 59 in a 50 temporary motorway limit. Hadn't noticed the change from 60 to 50. First blot on my driving copybook in 52 years.
Course was okay - didn't learn much new - just to keep a closer eye on motorway gantries.

When I got caught speeding a few years ago I took the points and fine as I couldn't be arsed with the SAC. Now that I've been caught again I'll be toddling along to a SAC. Tbh I'll be a lot more careful anyway - before I got caught the first time I'd gone 25 years without any trouble so thought I'd be fine, just a bit of bad luck. Now I'm thinking maybe it is me!

Well that's 3 hours of my life i'm not getting back from last night's Zoom course. I didn't really learn anything new but can see how the course can help refresh those who are out of touch with highway code and plenty of useful emphasis on observation and hazard awareness, so not all 'speeding is bad mkay'. Interesting takeways from the event were that some people are happy to Zoom in bed, and trainer said there were sensors going into motorways to stop MLM's!

I went in person for mine, and a lot of folk were really frosty at first. However the chaps that were running the course soon got everyone onboard though, and I ended up enjoying the banter and learning the odd new thing too.

They told us about MLM thing as well.

Well done Lee!

I did mine online last December.

I'd love to know more about the MLM thing though - they're one of my pet hates, especially on the M40 when it's half-deserted. banghead

All these years later I have no documentary evidence but Mrs Tidy really did get a fixed penalty for 33 in a 30 in Datchet back in around 2003 - SACs weren't an option then.

And did that sound credible? How are sensors going to get into motorways to stop MLM ing? Classic SAC bks

Of course not, but i'm in no position to start arguing with the trainer smile I'd dearly love to see some enforcement of MLM's who are just a rolling road block.

So why was it an interesting takeaway if you didn't believe it?

It's no big deal of course, but there's no reason for the SAC trainers to spout bks. I am an expert in SACs (I'm obviously not listening) but I can't see why they see the need to make stuff up. The job of driver training to produce better drivers is a fabulous enterprise and I am a big fan - I've learned a lot from driver training over the years. So where is the need to add a dollop of bks to the affair? It's just very strange.

I think a lot of it, rather than making it up is they all work from a script and in most cases the script is well ot ouf date and living in the past. Stopping distances is one example
