Unrelated to this thread. Having owned and sold two M5C’s, I now play around in a GR Yaris for fun. It’s pretty raw and has plenty of smiles per mile. I’m intending to keep it and hand it in to my son eventually. Nothing like the F90 M5C obviously but probably better handling and more fun than the new M5 PHEV lump!

Agreed my 2023 M5 Ultimate is here for some time, that donkey will struggle to keep up IMO.
Keep up where? Do you actually take your f90 to a track? Fair enough if you do and it probably won’t but surely the m5 is a luxury barge not a track car.
Lots of these high emission saloons will go hybrid so this M5 looks a fantastic option for an every day car but not a track car, yet that is the comparison made. I have a new RRS and an older AMG GT, I’ll swap the RRS for it in a heartbeat but not the AMG because it’s not a sports car.

You'd be surprised how handy the M5 is around a track.
It has about the same time as a McLaren 650S spider around the Nürburgring.
Faster than a 458 Italia, a Gallardo LP 570, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, a Porsche 911 GT3 (997) driven by Walter Rohrl, etc etc.

As part of the package for my first M5 I spent a day with it at Silverstone with the BMW M Sport drivers team. We got to learn how to drive it on the edge and really pushed it to its limit. Amazingly capable for a large car, was an awesome day!

That's impressive, i thought it was more straight line speed it could compete with those cars in but not track.

I am not a track goer to be honest but like to have fun in a sports car on country roads but preferred something smaller than my F90 which I loved for everything else. I think the new one appeals to me because it is the latest and I'm not really that into the RRS and i do think it looks the part.

Interesting as i thought the opposite about my GR Yaris & couldn't wait to get rid of it.

The ONLY scenario i enjoyed it, was a Sunday morning hoon round the Lake District or North Yorks moors, everywhere else it was woeful & as most have found out, they're useless on track in stock form & need around £5-7k minimum spending on then to upgrade the suspension & brakes.

I bought mine for Sunday blasts & TRACK work, but the latter it couldn't do & after 1k miles i sold it.

At the same time i had a 7.5 Golf R (did have some track upgrades) & that was far more accomplished & significantly quicker everywhere, including on track (& my LCI M5C was quicker than the Golf R round Doni & Spa)

See above, my LCi M5C spent quite some time on track (was an Ultimate Edition so the CCB helped) & was very little that could keep up & it could scare some far more exotic & lighter weight Sport & Super Cars.

Well under 3mins round Spa, lap after lap & was happy to beat & stick with anything from Porsche, sub 991/2 GT3 RS's, although wasn't able to shake a couple of very well driven 992 Turbo S's.

I used to take mine on track too and only really got passed by mental stuff such as Atoms and 620r's.

Spa here too on a pre LCI comp. Shockingly capable for a big lump. The post LCI is even better. The faster you put these into a corner the more reward (and surprise) you get.

An F90 M5 is entirely capable on a track.

Not driven mine on track but on quiet roads I find the limit for taking medium to high speed turns is my nerve...the cornering speeds attainable are mental and generally above what I find comfortable with.

Funny you saying that a sales rep for BMW saw mine today and said he thinks prices will firm up as the new 2.5 on M5 seems a bit too big and heavy for many.

It will be interesting how the new model treats tyre wear. I’ve got a feeling it will eat them.

Just had a play around on the configurator for the new G90 M5.

I cannot see any of us having a single moment of desire. It is aimed squarely at the JDAM style Instagram crowd.

The first M5 I have never wanted.

Ignoring it's weight and the impact this will have on driving dynamics for a moment, i went onto the configurator (which firstly struck as very 2016 in terms of graphics and usability) and with the necessary options, ie Ultimate pack (heated rear seats are one of the 10 options that pack incorporates...), the OTR price is £132,655, and for that you get a far inferior interior finish in terms of materials quality. So before discount, i would be looking at circa £70k cost to change trading in my 2 year old high spec 20 thou mile M5C - who on earth will make those numbers work i wonder. Not me that is for sure.

I watched the carwow review and quite liked the look of the interior. Why are the materials going to be poorer quality?
Definitely odd that the newer model is actually slower on paper than the outgoing one.
I'm sure big discounts will come in the next year or 2, like they always do with bmw M models lol.
My choice would be the estate version next year but no doubt that will be unavailable to the majority of us..

The cooking G60 innards definitely feel less robust than the F90, the G90 wont be any different. Though, I remember the launch for the F90 and I felt it was a lot more flimsy than the F10.

I am judging on how the high spec Mi60 5 series felt that i sampled recently, lots of hard plastic surfaces and leather that i doubt ever came from the hide of a cow. Little flair in design, just a mahoosive curved screen for all functions. Really felt low rent compared to my M5. One of the main reasons i came back to BMW from a long succession of AMG and Audi RS products was because the quality of the Mercedes was far inferior to the ambience and build in the past generation M5. This latest 5 series to me feels like a Merc, ie lots of flashy ambient lighting and screens, and that doesn't float this old mans boat i am afraid.

My 2018 non-comp will be going up for sale next week - best car I've ever owned and I know I'll regret letting it go!

Picking up a Tesla Model 3 Performance, followed by an E92 M3 later in the year as a toy... hoping that softens the blow.

There's nothing quite like these F90s I don't think, the Merc and Audis don't drive as well nor as they as quick. Mine is Marina Bay Blue with the 2 tone Silverstone interior and I think it's the nicest looking 'Modern' M5 there's been so far. G90 does nothing for me.
