It's a shame most of the coverage was about Ronaldo crying as Diego Costa outshone Oblak at the end. 3 worldie saves at full stretch each time nad the first keeper to save 3 pens at the Euros ever.
And say what you like about Ronaldo, he wasn't afraid to step up and take another pen when it mattered - and smack it exactly where he intended either. Some talent, some character.
Yeah I thought he might fumble the second, takes some balls. And say what you like about Ronaldo, he wasn't afraid to step up and take another pen when it mattered - and smack it exactly where he intended either. Some talent, some character.

Was great to see Joao Palhinha giving Ronaldo a mouthful when he was crying about missing that penalty. I expect Ronnie didn't like being called out one single bit, and JP will now be benched for the next game. Palhinha is just about the only likeable player in that team, and I'd be pleased for him if they progressed as he's a hard worker and totally committed to the cause. But still, on the whole, I hope France tear them a new one, they are the nastiest bunch of egotistical cry babies I've ever seen embarrass a football pitch.

Enjoyable game, seems like both teams genuinely trying to win it, perhaps not the absolute best quality, but certainly an entertaining 120m.And say what you like about Ronaldo, he wasn't afraid to step up and take another pen when it mattered - and smack it exactly where he intended either. Re the bold, can't agree at all. Three terrible penalties that any keeper who guesses the right way should save. Each one was metre and a half from the post and at perfect height for a diving keeper.

Ok. So worldie guessing 3 times in succession then. Re the bold, can't agree at all. Three terrible penalties that any keeper who guesses the right way should save. Each one was metre and a half from the post and at perfect height for a diving keeper.

Saw that too. It's ok to feel bad about letting the team down but not to fall apart like that. Palhinha was right to give him some straight talking; he needed it. Seemed to work too, given the way he put away his pen in the shootout. I doubt very much he would be benched in the next game for it. Skyedriver said:

Given how harsh the rules are for keepers on pens, did Ronaldo not stop completely in his run up? I thought that wasn't allowed and Havertz was the same the other day.
^^this^^is there a nodding head emoji?

I'm biased but I'd put Jota in there too. The fact he's predominently warming the bench is a sign of weak leadership. Agree with the rest though, hope France wipe the floor with them, which I think they will because they're going to need 11 players on the pitch running their legs off.

Come on the Slovenians !!!
So what's the deal with all this chat last night? Slovenia are like the Greece team reincarnated. Greece won the Euros but an absolutely horrendous watch and Slovenia are a copy and paste of that.I get the Ronaldo hate - its been like that since 2006 but fair play to him for having the balls to get back on the horse and take another. He's a lot of things that lad, but he's got grit (and Turkey teeth
![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
I was praying for Portugal to go through as I absolutely didn't want another 90/120 mins of that rubbish a few days from now. Some of you need your head examined!!!
Portugal v France might actually be good so I'll look forward to that.

) Still as petulant as ever though, which is annoying to watch but I still enjoy watching him overall. The sum of all the parts and all that yada yada.

Must admit I was watching hoping the Slovenians would sneak a win (as they were the underdog). But some of their fouling was OTT and their forwards can't hit a barn door with a banjo. And ultimately, when Ronaldo stepped up for that pen in the shootout and hit it so well, I did think "wow, you know what? That took some guts". Yeah he's a walking ego problem but at the same time, he sees his country's success as his responsibility and he bears that on his shoulders and is more than happy to lead from the front, not strut about and let others do the hard stuff. I wouldn't say he's likeable but respect where due etc.I get the Ronaldo hate - its been like that since 2006 but fair play to him for having the balls to get back on the horse and take another. Sesko will be thinking about that missed chance for a while.

The kicker:
must be clearly identified so the referee and the goalkeeper know who is taking the kick
can stop and start during their run-up to the ball
must not stop or feint (pretend to kick the ball) at the end of their run-up – they must kick it immediately
must kick the ball forward (but can backheel it towards the goal)
cannot touch the ball again until another player has touched it

They just needed one decent player up front.
They would have won if they had a Kvaratskhelia type player.
Sesko was very disappointing given the big up he got pre-tournament. Missed an absolute hum-dinger of a chance, then didn't even step up to take a pen! They would have won if they had a Kvaratskhelia type player.

Ominously England are rated #1 for pen conversions (95.4%).
