Surely Porsche are going to correct whatever the issue is? ![confused](/inc/images/confused.gif)

the 718 is actually a slight restyle of the 981, a car that is now 12
And now off sale in Europe as Tom Cruise could hack into the car on his iPhone from the car behind.PinkHouse said:
Porsche have absolutely milked the life out of this platform which has been basically the same since 2012, in that period the 911 has gone through two more generations and they will still be making these well into 2025. You can tell that the interior and exterior are actually quite dated looking compared with other cars being delivered today. Some might argue that it's actually a benefit due to feeling "analogue", but that should be reflected in the price and there's no way they should be charging nearly £200k for the privilege
they can charge almost whatever they want now because there is no real competition... who else makes 9000 rpm naturally aspirated engines, small hypercar manufacturers aside? I actually think the dated interior is a plus, there's no buttons on the wheel and most everything that should be button/switch operated is.

I was amused when Harry mentioned you could option magnesium wheels to save an extra 10kg, but didn't mention they cost £11.5k!
And that's with Porsche probably not making any money on this option. Forged Mag wheels are incredibly expensive, a lot of the times costing more than £11.5k if you were to buy them separately.ArgonautX said:

I had to do a double take at that too. I know Porsche are known for costly options, but goodness me. Maybe the "it's all so bloody expensive it's ridiculous" is just taken as implied these days.
1. Going to the toilet before I leave the house
2. Be a bit less of a fat knacker
3. Put a bit less petrol in it.

Aside from some SERIOUSLY expensive cars I don't think anyone does aside Ferrari (V12). Can you still get a NA Lambo? Bare in mind this car was £130k+ so those cars can at least be mentioned. But yes, things like Gordon Murray cars etc.... No... Bit pricey!
Huracan and R8 are out of production, no more NA V10Ferrari's new V12 is, what, 400K+, same as Revuelto.
Meanwhile, Porsche offers 2 options, the GTS 4.0 and the Motorsport 4.0. My only regret is that the GTS 4.0 engine is not available in the 992.

Yes, I guess so although I've always considered the Cayman & Boxster to be what the 911 should be, i.e. same engine but mid as opposed to rear hung. Sadly I've read the next Porsche cars will be EVs ![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)
100% EV but Porsche will sell you their magic Chilean efuel made from carbon that definitely hasn't come from fossil fuel power stations and been laundered through the carbon credit tax scheme. ![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)
![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
But, VW are desperately seeking to backtrack now as they thought they could outcompete China when it comes to building cars but have realised they don't stand a chance, even with all their decades of state subsidies and financial 'games'.

I don't keep up; is this because you have to be on their friends list, or because they're not making any more?![confused](/inc/images/confused.gif)

Which is a great way of saying 'I'm only going to build you one if you meet our criteria'!

Surely a 911 is the better all round choice.
For whom?Surely a 911 is the better all round choice.
The owner with a partner and two very small children/pets?
The owner who has always loved a 911 and it's iconic status?
For me the ultimate all round choice was mid-engine'd and looked 'right' when made as an open top (subjective).
Aside from the badge and the orientation of the engine/cargo space the Boxster has always been seen as less because of marketing, price point, and ultimate power ranking. A perfectly normal reaction as you can't have a range of cars that all compete against each other... an 'entry level' sports car, THE sports car, a track god, a GT, an SUV, each has a place.
But in Porsche's case the 'entry level' is actually far more than that...
Engineering wise the 986 Boxster was a 996 911....the 987 was a 997 and the 981 was a 991.
For some reason the 718 lost the 'Boxster' name but remained based on the 991....
Under the skin nearly all the part numbers for a 981 start with 991*****
Even the software is shared.
All the engineering and development was done for the 911 of it's era, whilst the Boxster of its era had extra development on top.
Instead of rear seats then engine, you get engine and boot.... the shared parts make the 'entry level' the VFM option and some could argue the better driving option due to it's layout...

It's a bizarre display of the consumer disease to be honest. And one might suspect they'll be using the trick currently to push punters into EVs as that's the kit struggling to get shifted at the moment?
Personally, I can't imagine anything more miserable than wanting an object so much that you'll degrade yourself to get it while helping the manufacturer maintain a false market in used values.
It's all a bit sad and grim.

Depends on what you want. If you want a more engaging and less demanding car the Boxster is the one for you. Surely a 911 is the better all round choice.
