I got a place at the first time of trying. How lucky, I think! Kind of hoping it's a phishing email lol.

Not knowing London at all, any recommendations on where to stay? Prices look to have gone crazy already. Would rather be nearer the start, less faff on the morning of the big day.
Congratulations (he says through gritted teeth). Another no for me. It's been no for nearly 20 years straight now. I think they don't want me there.

I am considering entering my first marathon next year, the Manchester one. However, I am worried that I might not be able to get all the training in required to get a good time (I'd be aiming for 3hrs 30). The event is on 27th April but I am on honeymoon from 11th - 25th January.

I am already pretty fit, able to run a 10k in 42 mins, can run over 14 miles with my club and finished the Fred Whitton Cycle event this year in 7 hrs 30 ish.

Do you think I'd be able to get a training plan in place for 3 months to be good enough to hit my target with a decent base level of fitness or should I look at run later in the year?
I think you'll be fine too, throw a few runs in whilst on honeymoon to keep the legs ticking over smile

I’m in at 8th attempt. Need to get the training in now to do it justice although main aim is to finish. Bucket list event for me! I’m a very average triathlete so base fitness is half decent and my Sunday long runs are around half marathon distance so should be fine. Plus I have a tri coach who will incorporate marathon training into plan for me.

As someone else asked…open to advice for the logistical side of things….where best to stay etc. probably planning to go down on Friday so I can register etc and then wife and kids join me Saturday. Will need 2 rooms somewhere.

It’s a cruise rofl

I have entered. Gave my finish time as an optimistic 3 1/2 hrs.

Well done you. I did see a note from my running club that even the entries for clubs are being cut back. The smaller ones no longer get an automatic place.

Thanks

Switched my focus from long to shorter. First run of the new regime was a fantastic and relaxed 30 mins in the sun. Nice to get moving again after Saturday's 50k. Best I've felt in the week following an ultra distance. Road to sub 20 5k and the sub 40 10k starts here!
Let's go!!!!
We have some work to do. parkrun at 8/10 effort to make sure I didn't blow. 23.22. Flat course and I've been 19.52 before, so no complaints on elevation or underfoot conditions.

I believe my future holds fsrtlek, hills and long intervals.

6 weeks of being injured and zero running! It's been really hard if I am honest!

I have done 3 runs now 2 all on grass, 3rd today on a mix of grass and paths! Just taking it slow.

Plan is Marathon late in the year.

As hard as it is, might be better to think long game and do more strength and slower runs ready for an April marathon 2025. The strength work for some months will reduce the chance of another injury.

I have been thinking this, I can add strength in twice a week fairly easily tbh

I have run a few marathons and up until 6 week ago my weekly long run was between 14-18miles.

I did something new the other day - when resting between strength sets, I did some on the spot running drills. Just 30s during a 90s-2min rest, but it was an excellent way to use the time productively without significantly impacting the weights workout.

Brutal! What pace were you running for the 1 minute segment?

Thanks

Start the first 5 min at around 10k pace, so for me about 3:50-4:00 pace. Then get progressively quicker.

Final 1 minute segment will be around 2:40/km pace.
