Mine was a manual, but I personally believe that the DCT is a better fit, although there is definitely something lovely and old school having a V8 engine mated to a 3 pedal manual though I reckon.
My brother in law had his E93 M3 Convertible DCT for 11 years as a weekend car for example, and he loved it to bits for sure.![driving](/inc/images/driving.gif)
I was very much in the DCT camp but driving GPM’a manual E90 made me rethink my stance to be honest. I thought it was ace with the manual especially with that induction noise and the blip on a heel and toe downshift. Interesting thanks.
I heard one starting up at a filling station i was at last weekend and it made me weak at the knees. Really looked and sounded the part as it rumbled out and off down the road.
It would be a weekend car. I dont think i'd want to be running one as a daily, as per yours and other comments.
I think the fuel consumption will be brutal as a daily so perhaps not buying one was for the best. I was talking to a chap my wife knows through work who has an E90 that he keeps putting up for sale and keeping. He says you can’t run one as a daily these days because the bills are just too big. Doesn’t stop me lusting after one though.

I think the DCT definitely gets the best from the engine, plus the DCT would also be a benefit if you're using one as a daily driver too I think. However, if you're only using it as a weekend car, then there is certainly an argument for the 3 pedal manual for sure.
The best memory of mine(apart from the odd fun sideways action), was 8400rpm in third at 110mph...and then quickly grabbing for fourth gear, and it was amazing to be honest. Very memorable.

I'm always quick to share an opinion on the E9x M3, but I'm chuffed that I got to experience one though. Plus I've always thought that you should get one as well one day too.

Yes Sam, and I always find myself seriously conflicted with it to be fair as well.

Don’t get me wrong the DCT works really well with it and the downshifts are very silly especially in a more aggressive setting.I think the DCT definitely gets the best from the engine, plus the DCT would also be a benefit if you're using one as a daily driver too I think. I was very pleasantly surprised by the manual in GPM’s car, but BMW manuals are a bit hit and miss (the 125i has a really good shift that was much better than my 130i).
I’m also coming to the conclusion that I’m very much an automotive dinosaur.

Nothing wrong with that at all I reckon. ![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)

I sometimes wonder if I was born a dinosaur when it comes to cars to be fair!
![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
I bought my first BMW in 2005 and am now on numbers 7 and 8, all manual.
Some had great gearboxes, some mediocre and my current 330i is the most obstructive yet.
![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)
But they were all Getrag boxes. I did 180 miles in my Z4M today which has a ZF box and while it feels quite heavy in its' action it always finds the gear I want so overall is probably the best of them because it's consistent. Or maybe I'm seduced by the S54 engine up at the red line.

The M2 is doing around 23mpg on Super unleaded but i'd say the M3 V8 is another level of pain entirely.

I was getting about 13mpg in the M6, it was only used for fun really! The M2 is doing around 23mpg on Super unleaded but i'd say the M3 V8 is another level of pain entirely.
I dont do big miles even as is - only around 5K a year, but if i'd something with a V8 as a weekend toy it'd probably drop the miles to around 3K.
Its not a decision i'm going to make any time soon. Having too much fun in the M2
