Interesting thread. I had an Irish Grandmother which I think would enable me to get an Irish passport.

Sounds worthwhile.
Yes, it does.
Just need the certificates to prove it…..
Though I’d get a company to do all that. I found these guys unless anyone has other recommendations?

It is a doddle to do, why pay someone?
Exactly. Really easy. Here's everything you need - select the first dropdown here [Adult applicant applying on the basis of an Irish born Grandparent]
https://www.ireland.ie/en/dfa/citizenship/born-abr...

There's also a really useful Facebook group, called "Foreign Birth Registration & Passports Ireland". Have a search through the multitude of posts there, as there's hundred of posts in the exact same situation as yourself, with all the useful links/info you need. But do search before posting thumbup

You definitely don't need any professional assistance if you are applying for foreign born registration based on a grandparent, as it is a straightforward 'fill in the forms, and send it off with the certificates' job - and it isn't a difficult form, just make sure that you follow the rules for the documents required and the person witnessing your application.

For advice on any 'edge' cases such as adoption, not being in contact with living parents or grandparents, etc. then a good source of advice is the subreddit www.reddit.com/r/IrishCitizenship/ although there are a lot of Americans in there.

Just to update this thread, she applied on the 4th March. On the 9th May they weren't happy with the witness we had and they wanted her previous marriage certificate (I almost sent it with the application in the first place but didn't want to confuse them by sending documents they hadn't asked for) so I had to send them that, which pushed us back to the start of the queue.

But yesterday it went to printing and we should receive it in the next few days.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

Did you have to appy for the foreign birth Register first though? That's the one that takes the time.

I did, passport took about 2 months but that was due to the British postal strike.
