Wow, that was fun.
Relatively big gap between 2nd and 3rd considering how close it;'s been so far. Superb laps by Lando and Max.

I think it was a car-fail for Charles, rather than strategy?

He missed the flag by about a second, team should have told him how close he was.

Yes I see what you mean, but of course, his car caused an issue so he didn't exit the pit lane in (presumably) enough time to get to start his lap.
I guess we'll find out more soon.

It might be my imagination, or just hope, but has the RB become less reliable this season? MV's already on his final bits for some replacements, and it's only just half way through. With McL just a smidgin behind the RB, and with a very fast driver who understands tyres it seems, the RB appears to have no reserves. Are they pushing the power train too much, having to turn up the wick to keep the McL at bay? Worrying about kerb height is not new, but it's every race now. Perhaps there is a god.

We've got the possibilities of a fight at the front for the sprint race, and this might carry on over into Sunday.

One another note, I'm not always right, and maybe, on an occasional occasion, I might state something as fact that there are, for the pernickety few, an alternative interpretations, but I would like to point out that I stated, a few years ago, Hamilton would regret leaving McLaren. Who's smug now, eh?

I don't think it's particularly that the RB is less reliable - more that they are having to push it to it's limit more often now they have some actual competition.

Remember in past years they've been literally bolting away from P1 for 5 laps then sticking the cruise control on.

Yes! I'm talking about earlier sessions, always difficult, and then suddenly

And that's on possibly the shortest laptime on the calendar. It's the equivalent of over 2s at Spa.

I am 100% sure that LH has NO REGRETS at all about leaving McLaren!
So you think because now McLaren have a competitive car and better than Mercedes that he would have been better off staying with McLaren????
If LH stayed with McLaren he would have just 1 WDC. Be real, McLaren have had terrible cars for many years, it was only the massive jump they took last year that has them fighting at the top with Max. LH in a McLaren in these past years would still be a slower car and not get him more WDC.

You see how sad and unhappy LH is with the Merc car these past couple years, and that he has given up on Merc. So how many years of a far worse McLaren would you think LH would have accepted before he left?

I was going to say that you must be new here, but it turns out you actually are. Welcome along!

Derek’s tongue was in his cheek thumbup We (generally) like to play nicely here and enjoy a good bit of self-deprecation and sarcasm smile

You know that most people said he was mad to leave McLaren to go to Mercedes at the time, right? In 2012 when he announced it McLaren won seven races to Mercedes' one and only win, their first of the modern era. Nobody foresaw the coming period of Mercedes dominance, nobody outside of Mercedes anyway.

We will see if Ferrari can give LH a good enough car for race wins. They need to do better on race strategy though. It would be humiliating for LH if next year Mercedes have a much better car than Ferrari.

Anyway, on topic of Austrian GP, looks like Norris will be MV's main challenge in at least the sprint. Not surprising if those two stay together 1-2 from start and build gap to others behind.

Weather hot and dry for Saturday.... BUT Sunday looks chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Spice it up, not just MV running away with it again.
