The original Mustang is not exactly small, but it kinda staid that way. It's everything else that grew completely out of proportion.

I think the Volvo might be quite a bit wider.

Yes very likely. Chances are they both have a similar overall footprint, so the new car is probably not dwarfing the old one.

The S2 has a similar footprint to an urQuattro. Same basic suspension components. My wife's "Mini" is wider (as well as a lot taller) than my urQuattro, so I'd be very surprised if that Volvo isn't significantly bigger all round than than the S2. It's surprisingly difficult to photograph these 'dwarfed by' pics I find.

(There'd better be a good reason why the S2 isn't on its lovely original Avus wheels BTW. )
