That's the nature of stadium gigs.

You know the sound won't be good , probably miles from the stage and public transport is hectic.

But if the bands playing stadiums your not going to watch them at a club .

I'll never fathom coughing up £££ to sit in a cavernous arena, clutching a £20 beer, watching matchsticks on stage on the far distance when you can get down to a local venue, pay a tenner to stand in a sweaty room with 200 like minded people, then chat the finer points of guitar strings with the band over a beer after the show. Horses for courses obvs, but small rooms dunk on arenas every time for me.

Indeed. I saw Royal Blood and Muse at the John Smith's stadium in Huddersfield last year. Two bands I've always liked but somehow had never seen before. The queues for the toilets and beer trucks were mental, the prices insane and the acoustics were poor, but it was the only way I'd get to see them. They put on a good show with a good setlist, but I much prefer tiny intimate venues or medium sized ones with decent acoustics.

The only plus was when we left the show, we wandered into the street with thousands of others and yet we ordered an Uber, and we were back at our campsite within 20 minutes. The same luck can't be said for when we went to see The Stone Roses at Heaton Park a few years back. Great gig but a nightmare to get back to the hotel.

I used to rehearse in the next room to Royal Blood befor anyone knew who they were. They made a right racket smile

And I was at the Roses in Heaton park, had enough presence of mind to leave halfway through Resurrection & just avoided the mad rush that followed.

I agree, but you're unlikely to catch Pearl Jam down your local.

On the subject of sound and acoustics we’re just back from the IoW Festival and the sound was really impressive and to these (54 year old) ears impeccable (so having typed that my ears might not be the best judge).
So obviously ‘festival’ and in the main all the complete inconveniences of a festival including 80,000 other people, short sets etc, etc. But whoever did the sound really earned their money.

I went to that gig too. thumbup

We should have seen Royal Blood years before when they supported the Foo Fighters but Dave Grohls' broken leg ruled that out, so as big Muse fans too we jumped at the chance to get tickets for Huddersfield even if we had to drive over from Cheshire!

The probelm is the best acts tend to use the biggest arenas. frown

Pearl Jam on Saturday in Dublin were fantastic. All the angst about tickets is quickly forgotten when on the moment in front of a fantastic band, playing a great setlist of old and new material… Even met Stone and Boom as they were leaving their hotel before the show - I’m way to old to be a fanboy, but it was hard to think of anything else to say but have a great show…

Was at Rock in Rio, Lisbon the last two Saturdays, 15/22 June, location was beautiful

15 was Scorpions as the headline group but Europe totally stole the show - excellent.
Scorpions went well but looked like he need a wheelchair, he's old!

Few Portuguese bands who were very good too

22 Macklemore, apart from the political statements was very good, James too

I've got tickets to see AC DC in Wembley in early July. Having never been to a gig there before, how soon to the gig day do they send out the digital tickets? Thanks in advance.

Yet others travel there from all over the country seemingly with no problems.
Everyone is prepared to put up with different levels of inconvenience.

To be fair, the underground was shut the time I went.

Equally, though, the O2 experience wasn't enjoyable for me, so even if it was a half hour walk, I'd not be rushing back.

Contemplating Jesus Jones on July 19th, in Grimsby. Ideally I would see them with EMF in October but unfortunately we're already booked to go abroad for those dates.

I saw them last year and they were brilliant. Can't believe how young Mike still looks.

Off to see AC/DC at Wembley in a couple of weeks. Then off for Metallica in Madrid for their 2 gigs in July. Trying to weigh up whether I get Pantera floor tickets for Leeds next year.

Got a few upcoming gigs
Rick Astley, in Halifax. Hopefully cheesy and fun
Kings of Leon in Nottingham, first reviews are excellent. Really looking forward to this.
The Stranglers in Halifax, wife's choice so don't really know their music
Busted in Scarborough, should be a laugh.
Simply Red in Leeds , hoping this is good as he's got a number of classic songs

Also going to Tribfest next month. Should be a random mix of cover bands

Yes, I saw them for the first time in September 2022 at the London date. Sort of missed them at their peak in the early 90s; too young really but was properly appreciating them come the late 90s. I really enjoyed their performance and was pleased with the setlist, hopefully similar again.

finally got to see Jalen Ngonda on Sunday at the Trinity Centre in Bristol. He is a young American soul singer (based over here) with a very 'old' style and fantastic voice.

missed a sell out at the jazz cafe a few months ago and this was rearranged after illness forced cancelation in April. Already has shows booked for slightly larger venues next year so glad to see him on this tour.

£17 per ticket, venue had a superb range of beers at around £5.70 per pint and a fab show.
