Looking for a bit of help from the collective minds as I’m sitting here second guessing myself.
Current situation:
Got rid of my previous car to buy the other half a bigger car when the little one came along. She decided she wanted a Peugeot 3008 1.2, and after driving it for a year she decided she preferred her smaller car so currently I’ve got a car I don’t like.
Looking something that I will buy as a long term keep so needs to be something good to drive with a decent bit of power to make the normal driving experience and office commute a little bit more interesting.
Main features:
Family friendly (hence the estate search although Mrs would probably like another SUV )
Petrol/hybrid (don’t do enough miles for diesel and not interested in full electric)
200bhp+ (need a bit more speed/acceleration after dealing with the Pug)
Auto
£15-20k
Just want to enjoy driving again!

My old E500 wagon was all the family car anyone could realistically need.
You’ll need the change from your budget to run it. Good luck!
I will be putting your old E500 up for sale in August - kids have left home and downsizing to a Boxster. You’ll need the change from your budget to run it. Good luck!

Surely Estate = Volvo??
Therefore a V90 will have you arriving at work in a total state of Zen.![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Just under 200 hp

Or would Sir prefer nearer 400?

Just last week I picked up a Skoda Superb Sportline 270 4x4 and I'm genuinely blown away by how good it is. More rear legroom than the Ford Ranger I had before, massive boot and more importantly handles really well. The steering is so sharp and it corners far better than anything the cheap side of an RS6 has a right to do.
It might not be right for you but I would recommend having a test drive.

Congrats/condolences on the kids leaving. Don’t tempt me. The 500 is a much more memorable car than the Tesla is.
I am going to run the Boxster as a second car for a month or so to make sure I gel with it before selling the E500.
I need to make sure I am making the right decision to sell the E500 as it is the complete car really. Final trip in it to the south of France with the family in July ( they are happy to come home when a free holiday is on offer…)
Gratuitous picture

Petrol Octavia vRS estate. Simple.
I bought one new in 2010 when the kids came along.
I’m pretty sure the same principle applies equally today!
Agree with Dunc69 with a petrol Octavia VRS, or alternatively as mentioned before a Leon Cupra or even a Golf R estate...I bought one new in 2010 when the kids came along.

Buy this. Seriously. It is lovely.
I miss my W212 massively.

Everything thats good about them, but being an Import its also a high spec, lovely smooth V6 petrol, will be mint underneath, and low miles. Rocking Horse, Hens Teeth, etc etc..

Very good to drive. Comfy, cossetting, Air suspension, takes massive loads without affecting the ride. OP is asking for a big practical family estate car 'keeper', not a hot hatch, not trying to be a BMW etc.
Honestly - In between all the sports cars and fun stuff I've owned, my prefacelift E350 estate is the one car I wish I'd never sold.
