We always get a lot of flies in our rear kitchen extension each summer, Wondering if anyone uses a UV fly zapper and if they are any good at dealing with house flies?. Plenty on Amazon, however seemingly mixed reviews.

Yes, have one of these on top of the wall cabinets in the kitchen (there’s nearly always a random fly around if you live in the country and leave windows open): https://www.nisbets.co.uk/eazyzap-led-fly-killer-1...

They’re best uses when it’s night/early morning and they’re the only/main light source.

Got this one a few weeks ago and it’s caught a few flies so far with a satisfying ZAPP!! When it gets them. Can be quite a work out as they move so fast.

We bought a couple of these which take AA batteries for a quid each from a Pound Shop some years ago and they still work. I find the trick is to wait by a window which they will invariably fly towards and zap them against the window pane.

I have one of those tennis racket fly swatters and it is pretty poor as standard, however with some soldering and a 3v to 10000v transformer it fries them biggrin

Seconded - bought one years ago and still working. The ones that take C type batteries last for ages.

Has anyone got one of these? £50 seems a bit much, but they look satisfying.

Just bought one for my wife, honest.

Really good fun & gets the job done, although some tougher flies require a few blasts.

I was just coming in to recommend one of those - the aren't cheap, but they are both much more effective than an electric swatter, and a hell of a lot more fun.

I bought it one day after a couple of beers, but have zero buyers remorse - it's surprisingly heavy, very well made (the pump action is REALLY satisfying), and pretty accurate.

You have to be fairly close - I've got it dialled in now so that I can normally shoot a big fly 2 or 3 times before it's totally dead.

Is there any option to prevent the flies coming in in the first place?

We often got flies in our kitchen extension due to having the window or door open.

Several years ago, I fitted a fly screen door to the kitchen door, and we were able to leave the door open for ventilation, but it completely stopped the flies from coming in. They also do screens for windows. We bought it from Streme UK

Obviously not as interactive as chasing them around with an electrified tennis racket, but it completely solved the problem.

3 feet generally sees the bug meet a salty end.

We've got a ground floor extension with lightwells, and insects go up into them and won't come down to be murdered. I reckon 3 feet would bring them into range. I think I shall buy one.

We have the older non led version of this. The UV bulbs need replacing each year but I leave it on 24/7 once the flies start.

Got a standalone one in the kitchen, certainly does a good job. Never was so much a fan of the racket type, even though it's very satisfying when you do get one.

Problematic as we have bi-folds on the extension which is the root cause of it all I guess, any nice weather and they are always open to some degree...

I have gone for one of the standalone units to see how it goes .
