Depending on where you are travelling around that area - if you head roughly east out of dep37 you will eventually come across Bourges (18). A really nice city with a world famous cathederal. You have Sancerre nearby if you are wine person. Beyond that if you head to Nevers (58) you will hit Magny cours the home of the french Grand prix (for 2007 atleast!).

We are planning a raiding party to Sancerre already, I happen to know it's 143 miles each way from our gite 
Actually Jason, can you recommend any vignobles worth visiting? If we're coming so far then it's worth knowing where to head!
Might pay a visit to the Chateau too, see if we should come for a visit at another time

Also Fournier Brothers. We have been to both of these and can recommend them.
If you go into Sancerre itself then make sure you go to the Wine exhibition. Its really interesting and explains why Sancerre is such a good wine region.

Just got back last night. The new A28 from Tours to Rouen is very very empty.
Loved it in Touraine, very quiet and rural - with a major city and transport links on your doorstep (Paris in 75 mins by train, 180 miles away!). Lots of tourist potential...

Mrs Puggit got back last night from a househunting trip. We've found a house that's half renovated (totally habitable) and half needing a lot of work.The house is not far from Chartre-sur-Loir and she had lunch in the hotel (and loved it).
The D29 was quite special when we drove on it in July!

Bad news - we've lost out on the house!
The house was on the market because a previous sale to a UK couple had fallen through as they failed to get a mortgage.
Despite our offer being accepted, the vendor has decided that we are also going to default on providing a mortgage (despite having the approval from the lender) and has kept the house on the market with another agency! Someone else local has come along without a mortgage and the French vendor has decided to gazump us before we can sign.
I'm absolutely livid

I thought that the French had a system that an offer had to be made with a deposit and if either party pulled out, the "victims" were compensated to the tune of the deposit - making gazumping a rare occurrence.

You are correct, the problem being that Mrs Puggit did the house-hunting, came back and we made a joint decision (based on 100s of photos and video).I stand to be corrected on this though!

You only had a verbal acceptance then.
If you offer the full asking price the vendor HAS to accept and he gets no cooling off time you have 7 days to cool off after your offer is signed and submitted and at the end of the 7 days your deposit should be in the hands of the notaire. You then have the next faze of delay!!!!
Believe me it is worth it in the end.
