Run every year at the end of October - 100 race cars from the 180mph Studebakers to sub 2 litre 356 Porsches race the old route of the Carrera Panamericana. Cars must be fully caged/firecelled and pass scrutinering on day 0. This event was known as the 1950s most dangerous event on the racing calendar and was the final leg of the World Sports Car Championship after Nurburgring, Lemans, Mille Miglia and Tour de France, but was stopped due to saftey concerns. Today is running in a resurrected form and is enjoying its 23rd year. Recent drivers include Jan Lammers, Stig Blomquist and Jo Ramirez. |
