Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 on Sunday the 15th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. Estimated price: GBP 36,000 - GBP 40,000.
First registered in the UK on 01/09/1979, this RS2000 Custom was acquired as a complete car and comprehensively restored, retaining its original bodyshell and factory colour. Bodywork included new inner wings, front panel, bulkhead, floors including the boot floor, rear quarter panels, doorsteps and complete doors. Further replacements include a bronze-tinted windscreen with top tint, rear bumper, rear lights and headlights, with independent, relay-protected wiring operated through the original column stalks
The vendor advises that the original matching-numbers engine was fully rebuilt by Classic and Modern in Bracknell, including cylinder head work, new pistons, balancing, a lightened flywheel and slightly uprated camshaft. The gearbox was rebuilt by a specialist, along with the original carburettor and differential/rear axle, with supporting invoices
The original date-stamped alloy wheels, including the spare, have been refurbished and polished. Interior refurbishment included a professionally fitted new headlining, new seat covers, retrimmed fishnet headrests, carpets, centre console, door and rear quarter cards and boot carpet. The original-style Ford push-button radio has been converted to Bluetooth operation with built-in 50W x 2 amplifier and retro-style Pioneer rear speakers
The vendor describes the underside as being as clean as the exterior. The restoration was completed at the end of September 2025, with just circa 15 miles covered since completion. The car will require running-in followed by a fresh oil change. The clock reportedly works but remains disconnected following long-term storage. The car is registered in the Historic Vehicle taxation class
With 11 former registered keepers and approximately one year's current ownership, the car is accompanied by invoices relating to the mechanical rebuilds and an original non-locking petrol cap. The vendor confirms that the car retains its original VIN plate and advises that a previous keeper mentioned the car had been briefly stolen, possibly during the 1990s. This information has not been independently verified, and interested parties are encouraged to carry out their own checks and satisfy themselves in this regard
