Description
The Fosse Way Collection comprises nine rare and eclectic motor cars, thoughtfully chosen and carefully maintained by a respected private collector, and each now offered with considerable recent investment.
Introduced in 1991 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Range Rover, the CSK is one of the most distinctive limited-edition derivatives of the 'classic' two-door model. Named after Charles Spencer King, the engineer behind the original Range Rover, just 200 examples were produced, combining the marque’s renowned luxury and all-terrain ability with a more sporting character. This example is number #66 of that limited production run.
Finished in Beluga Black, the car retains the CSK’s distinctive appearance, with chrome bumpers, silver coachlines and discreet CSK badging. The cabin has been retrimmed in black leather and black Alcantara, complemented by American walnut fascia and door inserts, creating a purposeful yet traditional interior.
Under the bonnet, this CSK benefits from a significant performance upgrade. The original 3.9-litre V8 was enlarged to 5.0 litres by renowned Land Rover engine specialist, John Eales of J E Developments, with the power output understood to be approximately 300bhp. Paired with its automatic gearbox, this substantial increase in capacity and performance makes for a particularly appealing interpretation of the classic CSK, retaining the unmistakable character and soundtrack of the Rover V8.
A significant investment was made in the car by Classic Workshop Ltd. during December 2018 and January 2019, with an extensive programme of work carried out to address areas of corrosion and improve the car’s overall condition. The work included metal fabrication, replacement of affected sections, preparation and painting, together with protective treatment to help guard against future corrosion. The accompanying invoices provide a detailed account of the work undertaken and are available to prospective bidders on request ahead of the auction, or to review in the auction hall during the event, allowing interested parties to satisfy themselves as to the extent of the work carried out. This investment, together with further improvements since 2020 and full rust protection, represents a considerable commitment to preparing this distinctive CSK for its next owner.
The accompanying history file contains service records, numerous invoices and MOT certificates dating back through much of the car’s life, providing a useful record of the work and investment carried out over the years. The car is registered J66 CSK, a fitting registration for an example identified as number 66 of the limited production run.
With just 200 examples produced, the CSK holds a special place in Range Rover history. This example combines its limited-edition specification with the desirable 5.0-litre John Eales V8 conversion, automatic transmission and a documented history of substantial restoration and subsequent improvement. A distinctive proposition for the Land Rover enthusiast, it offers the character of the classic two-door Range Rover with considerably more performance than originally envisaged.
