This 1957 Land Rover Series I combines documented provenance, long-term private ownership and a carefully executed restoration.

Built on 11 September 1957 and supplied through C. Allen & Son Ltd of Taunton, Somerset, it retains its original Somerset registration, YYD 116. The vehicle is accompanied by its original buff logbook, current V5C registration document and British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate.

Its early working life is recorded as having been with Somerset County Council and subsequently Bristol Fire Service. While no separate period service records are known to accompany the vehicle, the original buff logbook records it as red during this period, providing an important link between its documented history and its present appearance.

In 1978, the Land Rover passed into private ownership and remained with the same custodian for more than forty years. For much of that time it was kept at the owner’s holiday home in Spain, where limited seasonal use and a dry climate contributed to its preservation.

Following retirement, the owner undertook a four-year restoration for his own enjoyment. The work was completed shortly before his death and was approached as a personal project rather than a commercial preparation for sale.

The vehicle now presents to a high standard. The bodywork, chassis, running gear and interior have all received careful attention, while much of the original wiring remains in place and is reported to be in excellent condition.

The Heritage Certificate confirms the vehicle’s chassis identity, build date and dispatch details. Together with the original registration, surviving buff logbook and documented ownership history, these records provide a substantial provenance file for an early Series I.
