Description
2003 Porsche 911 996 GT3 Manthey M440 LF53 GVP
A walk round and a review of the car can be seen in the youtube video if you search for; @Prepworks_2023
First Registered on the 21/11/2003, this 2003 Porsche 911 GT3 has had only 3 owners in the last 23 years.
It was purchased from Porsche Centre Park Lane, London, with a retail on the road price of £82,113.36 pence. The original bill of sale and option list can be found in the vehicle’s history.
The first owner kept the vehicle right through to 2023, where it was purchased, off market, buy its second owner. 1.5 years later, it was purchased in May 2025 by the current owner, again an off market sale. This car has never been offered for sale on the open market.
The current owner purchased the car after owning a 996.1 GT3 for over 5 years, but with an option to buy such a low owner and special version, he sold the 996.1 and made the upgrade to this car.
The car was optioned with what some consider to be the ultimate must have for these GT3 models, with the Clubsport options ticked (all Clubsport items still present, full rollcage, harnesses, Perlon covered bucket Seats, electrical cut-off and Werner fire extinguisher), Litronic Headlights, PCCB brakes (now replaced with Steel rotors), Black Extended Leather interior and Basalt Black Metallic paint. The car has a full complement of original books, including the sought after Price List and GT3 owners manuals that often go missing, and also has 2 keys.
Through-out its life this car has been used as intended, covering 86k miles at present. The vehicle has also seen extensive maintenance, with record file spanning back to its first registration and covering every bit of maintenance the car has received. The folder is approaching 4” thick and tallies more than £100k in cost. The original service book has been filled, and a new (original Porsche) book has been started to continue the records. Its first recorded maintenance was through the Porsche network at the main dealers in Reading and Hatfield, before moving to being looked after at PARR. There, the car was looked after, and stored (at times), up until 2022. With a change of owner, the maintenance swapped to Zeigen Porsche in North Yorkshire, before the latest change of owner, where the maintenance was then picked up by Prepworks.
The history folder shows an even more detailed picture with additional work & maintenance being carried out at Manthey and JZM.
Although this car presents as a very original car, it has been subject to some modifications, not least of which, is the fitment of the M440 powerkit by Manthey. This was fitted in Autum/Winter of 2011 at approx. 52k. This powerkit included the rebuild of the engine with larger pistons and suitable cylinders, and a remap of the factory ECU. In the spares with the car, are the original cylinder liners and pistons/rings. The car was measured on the VGS dyno (tuner used by Manthey) prior to the rebuild and then post the rebuild. The car already had an M&M exhaust system installed prior to the rebuild, this exhaust was developed with Manthey for the K400/K410 power kits as fitted to the standard 3.6l versions of the engine in period. With the rise in capacity, the remap, exhaust and a subsequent modification to the airbox, the car made 457 PS at VGS (450 bhp), this is up from the factory figure of 381bhp, a 69bhp gain. The most notable change is the increase in torque, now at 460Nm, up from the original claimed 385Nm from the factory. This gives the car the ability to pull from 30mph in 6th gear.
Under the current owner a vehicle refresh has been carried out, covering many areas and aiming to bring the car to condition that makes it useable for many years to come. The current owns and runs a Porsche specialist, specalising in the maintenance in 996/997 GT3 models. This car has been used to showcase some of the companies products, processes and maintenance work. In 2025 the car received a set of Prepworks specification Nitron dampers, these are designed as an match to the OE 996 GT3 overing, with the spring rates matched to the OE supplied, but with the option of adjustable damping, the adjusters are visible in the rear and front and attached to the rollcage or come through he front strut covers. At the same time, a complete Numeric shifter setup was fitted, giving a more precise shift with a self centreing feature, along with the Numeric cables, this transforms the standard cars loose shift into a precise action. An RS replica bare carbon rear wing element has been fitted, along with some 4deg wing risors. These match with the Cup car front splitter.
Around the same time, the vehicle was sent to a local detailer, KS Autocare, where a single stage machine polish was carried out and a 5 year ceramic coating was applied to the vehicle in a 3 day deep clean package.
Following this work, a Dry Ice clean was carried out on the underside of the car, along with the application of a Dinatrol clear wax protection.
In early 2026 the car was subject to an engine out service. This included a complete refresh of the coolant system, with new coolant fittings being welded into the engines castings where they are prone to failure, all new rubber coolant hoses above the engine, new front side radiators, new header tank, new water pump and replacement coolant. Whilst the engine was out of the car, the brake calipers were sent to Brake Caliper Refurbs for a complete factory refresh and all new seals, the brake discs were replaced with Girodisc all around, new Pagid RSL29 pads where fitted all around and HEL braided hoses where fitted. The brakes were bled with Motul RBF660 brake fluid. Whilst the engine was out, a major service was carried out, with plugs, coil packs and aux belt all being changed. The clutch slave cylinder was changed, along with the rear sections of clutch line and the clutch bled.
Since the completion of this work, the car has covered only 200miles.
Since purchasing the vehicle in May 2025, the current owner has spent over £24,000 on maintenance, updates and preservation works to keep the car in the condition it is presented in.
The car on the face of it, looks like a very modified car, but it has been optimized in away that takes the 996 GT3 and bridges the gap to the performance of the later cars. It drives as an original car would, but has a bit extra in most areas. It’s a visceral driving experience that is very analogue, the removal of the stereo means you get to listen to one of the best NA flat 6 soundtracks through the M&M exhaust system and the additional induction noise from the tweaked airbox. The changes hence the experience of the car, making it more capable and adjustable between being a road or track car, as intended by Porsche.
