Description

Produced for just 13 months between 29th August 1967 and 19th September 1968, the Triumph TR5 is one of the rarest and most coveted British sports cars of its era. Only 2,947 cars were ever built, of which just 1,161 were supplied in Right Hand Drive in the UK, making genuine home-market examples like this one particularly special. Although outwardly similar to the Michelotti-styled TR4, the TR5 marked a major technical leap forward. Beneath its familiar bodywork lay Triumph’s new 2.5-litre straight-six engine with Lucas mechanical fuel injection — producing 150bhp and transforming the TR5 into a true performance sports car. It was, as Triumph proudly declared at the time, “the first British production sports car with petrol injection.” With a 0–50 mph time of just 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 125 mph, the TR5 offered thrilling pace and refinement in equal measure. Combined with independent rear suspension, front disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and an Overdrive Gearbox, it was one of the most advanced roadsters of its day — and today, it remains the most sought-after of the TR series, and prices of these rare RHD UK cars are still rising. This ''Concours'' Triumph TR5 - Chassis No: CP2958 and Engine No: CP2822HE is a 'Matching Numbers' car and was first registered in Lancashire with the number plate NTF 292G on 22nd October 1968. It was purchased by the previous owners in 2017 and the car was the subject of a meticulous three-year restoration which was completed with no shortcuts and every detail brought back to original perfection. It was built by owners with a genuine passion and obsession for doing things properly, the aim was simple: to return this TR5 as one of the very best examples on the road today. Rebuilt on a brand-new chassis, the restoration included all body panels being fully sandblasted prior to receiving a high-quality repaint. Every nut and bolt has been considered, with workmanship throughout to concours-level standards. Where appropriate, subtle upgrades have been made to enhance reliability and usability while remaining true to the TR5’s original character. These include: • Electronic ignition • Alloy Radiator • Evans Waterless Cooling Fluid • Upgraded Bosch fuel pump and 'Unleaded' Metering Unit. Upon completion in 2020, the car was sold to the current owner, a friend of the restorer's, and it has covered less than 1,000 miles since, and has been carefully stored in a secure, controlled environment and has not been driven during winter months. This car is genuinely is Concours condition throughout and the Triumph Sports Six Club (TSSC) who inspected the car, gave it an insurance valuation of £65k and said they haven’t seen another one in similar condition for a very long time. Upon sale, it will receive our own 55-point pre-delivery inspection and come with a new MOT + our 6-month mechanical warranty, extendable on request. Naturally, the car benefits from Historic Vehicle status, meaning Road Tax Free, MOT Exempt, and ULEZ Exempt. Please call to arrange a viewing, as the car is not currently on display in our showrooms. NB: Further photographs and documentation to follow.
