Although I’m probably biased this car is the sweet spot for reliability, usability and fun factor in the Caterham line up. The Duratec is more robust than the (admittedly brilliant) k-series and less highly strung than the R500 and not as heavy in the nose as the 620.

This car has run without any issues over the 17 years of its life with nothing more than regular maintenance required which has been carried out by a mix of me and Andy Belcher at Tech-7.

If the standard R400 isn’t enough it’s had a little extra attention given to it over the years with the following:

- Upgrade to Jenvey ITBs and re-map by the two infamous two Steve’s and Road and Race. This provides a smoother part open throttle than the RTB option (dyno sheets available)

- Exhaust primaries have been given Zircotec ceramic coating a la F1 exhausts to help heat management

- Additional heat shielding from engine bay and drive tunnel for the summer days

- Force Racing three piece wheels, shiny and light

- Carbon handbrake cover

- Carbon fog, reverse and indicator pods

- Carbon wing mirrors

- Carbon cycle wings

- Soft bits for sevens half hood and original hood available

- Starcom Bluetooth intercom and two headsets for road trips and phone connectivity

- 12v socket so battery conditioner can be plugged in easily

In terms of condition - Usual stone chips but good condition for a 17 yr old car. New front Avon ZZS and rears have plenty of life in them. Rear pads just changed to Ferodo DS2500 these match the front that have plenty of meat in them. Recent oil change and fluid top up just carried out
