Originally ordered through Ford main dealer Rice & Holman of New Jersey by Dr S Tatar to celebrate his graduation as a doctor, this special Mach 1 remained with him for approximately 45 years

During his first 18 months of ownership, Dr Tatar covered almost 50,000 miles, using the Mustang both for professional visits to patients and as his personal transport. It subsequently accompanied him from New Jersey to Illinois, Arizona and finally Virginia

Finished in its factory colour of Black Jade with the distinctive blacked-out bonnet treatment and a black interior featuring the rare factory high-back bucket seats

Powered by its original 351ci Windsor V8, paired with the original three-speed manual gearbox and specified from new with a Traction-Lok differential, power-assisted front disc brakes, AM/FM stereo radio, rear seat deck and Visibility Group, including racing mirrors

The 351 is reported to maintain excellent oil pressure and a steady water temperature. Now UK-registered as XAU 546G, the odometer records 82,831 miles and the car is MOT exempt

Accompanied by an unusually comprehensive history file, including its original $3,198 sales invoice, correspondence from Rice & Holman congratulating Dr Tatar on his new Mustang and what appears to be the original Ford ‘Armchair Estimator’ order sheet, with the chosen options circled by its first owner
