There are few cars capable of reconciling genuine everyday usability with the theatre of a naturally aspirated Ferrari V12. The GTC4Lusso does so with remarkable confidence, combining four adult seats, all-weather capability and meaningful luggage space with performance that remains firmly in supercar territory.

This 2018 example is presented in the particularly well-judged combination of Argento Nürburgring over a Blu Sterling leather interior with grey leather inserts. Sophisticated without being anonymous, the restrained silver exterior allows the Lusso’s sculptural shooting-brake proportions to speak, while the rich blue and grey cabin introduces colour and character without becoming overly decorative.

At its heart is Ferrari’s magnificent 6,262cc naturally aspirated V12, producing 681 bhp at 8,000rpm. With no turbochargers and no hybrid assistance, its response is immediate, progressive and wonderfully linear. Power is delivered through Ferrari’s fast-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and its highly sophisticated 4RM-S four-wheel-drive system integrating four-wheel drive with rear-wheel steering. The resulting performance is extraordinary for a genuine four-seater. Ferrari quotes 0–62mph in 3.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 208mph.

Despite its size and breadth of ability, the Lusso never feels like a conventional luxury GT. The steering is fast and accurate, the chassis is alert and the rear-wheel-steering system gives the car an agility that seems at odds with its long wheelbase.

Equally impressive is how little compromise there is – the rear seats are genuinely useful and the 450-litre luggage compartment is comparable with that of a conventional executive estate. The rear seats fold in a versatile 40/20/40 arrangement, making the GTC4Lusso capable of accommodating luggage, golf clubs or the demands of a family weekend away.

Today, the naturally aspirated V12 has established itself as the definitive and most sought-after GTC4Lusso. Availability remains limited and the V12 commands a clear premium over the turbocharged, rear-wheel-drive Lusso T.

Perhaps its greatest virtue, however, is its discretion. In a world increasingly defined by conspicuous displays of wealth, the Argento Nürburgring bodywork and beautifully restrained Blu Sterling cabin communicate taste rather than excess. The GTC4Lusso is not a Ferrari that needs to shout. Its presence, provenance and twelve-cylinder soundtrack are more than capable of speaking for themselves.
