1999 TVR GRIFFITH 500

Late 1999 TVR Griffith 500 with power steering, finished in Estoril Blue with Magnolia leather and showing approximately 49,800 miles.

I have owned the car since 2019. It comes with an extensive history file, invoices and a comprehensive photographic record of its documented body-off chassis refurbishment.

This is a well-sorted and very usable Griffith 500 which has benefited from substantial specialist work, sensible mechanical upgrades and careful maintenance. A comprehensive service and mechanical inspection was completed at the end of August 2026 in preparation for sale.

DOCUMENTED TVR101 BODY-OFF CHASSIS REFURBISHMENT

The chassis is one of the most important considerations when buying a Griffith, and the significant work has already been undertaken on this car.

Around eight years ago it underwent a documented body-off refurbishment by TVR101. The body was removed, the chassis stripped back, the outriggers replaced and the chassis hot-zinc primed and powder coated before the car was rebuilt.

The work included renewal of numerous chassis and suspension components together with the fitment of Nitron NTR Sport adjustable suspension.

The history file contains extensive photographs showing the car during the body-off process, the bare chassis, refurbishment and subsequent rebuild.

Importantly, the chassis and underside were inspected again during the recent August 2026 service. The garage specifically commented on how good the chassis remains.

Current underside photographs taken with the car on the ramp are included in the advert alongside photographs from the original refurbishment, allowing prospective buyers to see both the work carried out and its condition today.

COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE & INSPECTION – END AUGUST 2026

The recent service and pre-sale preparation included:

• Engine oil and filter changed

• Correct NGK B7ECS spark plugs fitted

• Distributor cap and rotor arm replaced

• Old brake fluid fully flushed from the system and replaced

• Cooling system flushed and coolant renewed

• Ignition timing checked

• Chassis and underside inspected

• Main mechanical components inspected

MECHANICAL HISTORY & UPGRADES

The car has benefited from considerable previous mechanical work and worthwhile upgrades, including:

• Borg Warner T5 gearbox rebuilt

• TVR camshaft replaced at 45,838 miles

• Nitron NTR Sport adjustable suspension

• Tornado ECU calibration by Mark Adams

• Bosch injectors and larger 20AM GEMS airflow meter

• Drilled and grooved brake discs front and rear

• Stainless braided brake hoses

• Upgraded silicone coolant hoses

• Upgraded power-steering hoses

• Refurbished radiator

• Manual radiator-fan override in addition to normal automatic operation

• Replacement alternator

• Heavy-duty replacement battery

• Upgraded/repaired META alarm and immobiliser

• Remote boot release from the key fob

EQUIPMENT & USEFUL EXTRAS

The car also comes with a number of useful additions and accessories:

• Surrey roof system

• Storage bags for the removable roof sections

• Space-saver spare wheel

• Alpine UTE-92BT Bluetooth digital-media receiver

• Upgraded speakers

• Leven aluminium indicator and wiper stalks

• Anderson under-bonnet jump-start connection

• Permanently installed trickle-charger connection

These are useful additions on a Griffith and make the car particularly easy to live with and tour in.

The car presents very well overall in the particularly attractive Estoril Blue/Magnolia combination. As you would expect with a 27-year-old TVR, there are some cosmetic imperfections including localised paint microblistering and stone chips to the front, but these are cosmetic and have deliberately been reflected in the asking price.

Mechanically, considerable expenditure has already been made in the areas that matter on a Griffith: chassis, suspension, gearbox, cooling, ignition and braking.
