1982 Range Rover classic 4 Door 3.5 V8

Incredible example of this very rare early 4 door model Range Rover Classic in original Sahara Dust paint with beige “teddy bear” interior.

This stunning vehicle was restored in 2016. All fluids were flushed and changed, including diffs, gearbox and coolant. Many parts were replaced such as interior trim parts, wing mirror base plates, window seals, washer bottle, many relays and switches, panhard rod bushes, tyres, and a new exhaust system. After this the car was only used for occasional Sunday jaunts and trips to be displayed at vintage car shows.

The car was sold to “Classic Range Rovers” in 2020 who carried out a restoration of the underside of the vehicle, replacing many bushes, suspension components, the differentials were rebuilt, new brake calipers were fitted, brake pipes and cylinders replaced, mud flaps, correct choke, the carburettors were rebuilt, and a genuine “New Old Stock” Land Rover towbar and A-frame was fitted which still looks new today and retains the original Land Rover factory stickers. The underside of the vehicle is immaculate, there is no rust, and this carries through to the engine bay which is in equally clean looking condition and even comes with the genuine bonnet panel in close to mint condition.

The bodywork is resplendent in original factory paint (Sahara Dust) and a great deal of time and effort has been put into retaining this stunning patina. The upper areas of the bodywork have recently been professionally machine polished to restore the paint’s original lustre, whilst the lower areas have been left “as is” to add character. Should the new owner wish these areas to be polished, this can be carried out at no cost. The paint is protected by a 5-year ceramic coating.

The original rostyle wheels have been restored, and are in excellent condition. New Dunlop tyres in the correct 205r16 profile have been fitted and are in excellent condition.

The interior is in stunning condition with minimal wear to the seating areas. The headlining is being replaced by Ramsay’s Coachworks in two weeks time, and the seat backs are being re-covered. This will be included in the price for the new owner. New unused genuine NOS front carpet mats will be included in the sale, and the rest of the carpets are in lovely condition. The rear seats appear to be relatively unused, and the fronts are the best I’ve seen on one of these cars.

The car comes with a comprehensive history file going back to the 1980’s, and the car has recently had some re-commissioning work carried out by Alex Lindsay Land Rover in Broxburn, West Lothian.

This work included a full service comprising engine oil and filter, spark plugs, plug leads, replace manual points distributor with a modern electronic distributor (Simon BBC power kit), resite electronic control module, fit new electronic coil, reset timing, and fit new flame traps. The gearbox was serviced and the gearbox filter was replaced so the car shifts through the gears smoothly with no nasty clunks and bangs. Both the engine and the transmission are silky smooth.

Some additional work was carried out including tighten loose steering drop arm onto steering box selector shaft, replace rear axle bump stops, grease propshafts, lubricate locks and hinges, and adjust tyre pressures.

The swivel joints were rebuilt with complete kits which has really tightened up the steering feel.

The car has had a full engine rebuild in the past and I suspect a performance or “towing” camshaft has been fitted. A Lumenition rev limiter has been installed and the car also has a pre-heater installed to warm the coolant up in cold weather.

This car wants for nothing - we’ve covered everything that could possibly need done during its recent recommission and mechanical and aesthetic overhaul. You literally only have to show it the key and it starts first time, every time. The choke can be turned off after a few minutes, and the car will start on the button without the choke for the rest of the day. The car comes with both sets of original keys and a folder of receipts and service history including the original Land Rover Range Rover dealer books.

This beautiful machine is priced very fairly for a car in such exceptional condition and is a genuine example of a car that can be driven away and enjoyed immediately. You’ll turn heads wherever you go - this is one of those cars that just has tonnes of character and charm. People love it - it’s not pretentious and has bags of character. Get used to being the centre of attention.
