All Stags were four-seater convertible coupés, but for structural rigidity – and to meet proposed American rollover standards of the time – the Stag required a B-pillar ''roll bar'' hoop connected to the windscreen frame by a T-bar. British Leyland built 25,939 between 1970 & 1977 and it was powered by Triumph’s in-house 3.0-litre V8 Engine paired with either a 4-speed Manual Gearbox with Overdrive or a Borg-Warner 3-speed Automatic Gearbox, all-round Independent Suspension, Rack-and-Pinion Power Steering and, its GT credentials were bolstered by period luxuries, including straight-grained American Walnut veneer Dashboards, electric Windows, a factory Hardtop as well as a folding Soft Top and Alloy Wheels. To drive today, the Stag remains as charismatic as ever with the burbling V8 soundtrack and of the 17,819 home market examples built, the DVLA data states that 7,700 still survive either taxed or under SORN and this is due to the thousands of Triumph Stag enthusiasts who have solved the early mechanical problems and produced a reliable and prestigious sports car. A very original 1976 Triumph Stag MKII Automatic - Chassis No: LD41854A and Engine No: LF041752HEA is a 'matching numbers' car and according to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, it was built on 27th April 1976 and despatched to British Leyland main dealer Mann Egerton in Southend, Essex. It was sold by their branch in Leigh on Sea Essex to its first owner, a Mr N R Kinvig of Leigh on Sea and first registered on 19th May 1976 with the numberplate OOO 363P which it still retains today. It is finished in its original specification as per the Heritage Certficate of Delft Blue with Black Vinyl trim, Black Mohair Soft Top and Factory Hard Top in Delft Blue, Automatic Transmission, Tinted Laminated Windscreen, Head Rests, Inertia Reel Seat Belts and Alloy Wheels. These cars also came with electric windows and Power Steering as standard. The car has only covered a genuine 87,238 miles from new with a full service history and the car came with a full Zeibart Rust Treatment applied by Mann Egerton when new (you will note yellow plugs on various panels) and this coupled with its careful garaging since then, has without doubt kept the car in the condition it is today. It did have a complete engine rebuild in 2005 @ 83,000 miles with new pistons, reground crankshaft and bearings, modified cylinder heads and gaskets, new timing chains, and has only covered 4,238 miles since then. According to the history file and invoices, it has been very regularly maintained and serviced and MOT'd every year plus it has had new suspension components, new rubber mountings, modified differential mountings, a new radiator and all pipework, a Kenlowe electric cooling fan as well as a new Viscous fan to eliminate any over-heating issues. It has an amazing ring binder containing everything, including a huge number of invoices for works and parts from 1986 through to 2026, MOT Certificates from 1984 to date, Tax Discs from the 1980's through to 2015 when they stopped issuing them, its original Triumph books and manuals, a full ownership history from new with copies of all V5's from the DVLA, a BMIHT Heritage Certificate and correspondence between some of the owners of the car, including an ownership log. We have been told by the current owner of 11 years that the car has not had any body/paintwork rectification at all and is all original, and this certainly appears to be correct from our inspection of the car + there are no invoices in the history file relating to any body or paintwork rectification. The car presents and drives beautifully and must be seen and driven to be appreciated. Upon sale, it will receive our own 55-point pre-delivery inspection and come with a new MOT + our 6-month mechanical warranty, extendable on request. Naturally, the car benefits from Historic Vehicle status, meaning Road Tax Free, MOT Exempt, and ULEZ Compliant. Available for viewing at our showrooms in Mortlake, South West London.
