Deeper, richer, and far more exclusive with a tone and depth that changes dramatically depending on lighting and paired with the Daytona seats and just the right amount of carbon and you have one of the most elegant Ferrari 488 Spiders.

The 488 is part of a Ferrari a bloodline that began with 1975’s 308 GTB, whose 3.0-litre produced a piffling-by-modern-standards 252bhp. In fact, Ferrari’s merciless technological advance means that the 488 Spider was more powerful than their Enzo hypercar.

Ferrari’s epic 661bhp 3.9-litre twin-turbo motor and seven-speed dual clutch gearbox make an astounding partnership in this car. Freakishly devoid of turbo lag, Ferrari created an engine that responds with an almighty kick from 2,000rpm, and doesn’t ease up until the 8,000rpm redline. The raw numbers are 0-62mph in 3 seconds dead, 0-124mph in 8.7-sec, and a top speed of 203mph.

If anything, its handling and ride are even more impressive: magnetic dampers keep everything tied down while filtering out rough surfaces, and the ‘side slip angle control’ and E-diff make you feel heroic without throwing it at the scenery. Like the 458 Italia and Speciale before it, the 488 GTB allows you to drive with the abandon that you would a hot hatch or Caterham not a mid-engined supercar. The 488 GTB is incredibility forgiving and with simply astonishing levels of balance no matter what the speed.

With the folding hard top in place wind noise is no different than in the GTB: with it lowered, turbulence is kept in check, with more exhaust noise – the tone is unmistakably Ferrari!
