Description
The Porsche 911 996 GT3 RS is a highly focused, track-ready variant of the 996 generation 911, produced for the 2003–2004 model years as a homologation special for GT racing and marking the very first iteration of Porsche’s now highly successful GT3 RS model lineage. Based on the standard 996 GT3, the RS was significantly lightened through the use of a polycarbonate rear window, carbon-fibre bonnet and rear wing, thinner glass, and reduced interior trim. Power came from the Mezger-derived 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, producing around 381 hp and delivering an intensely mechanical driving experience. With sharper suspension tuning and a more aggressive chassis setup, the 996 GT3 RS stood out as one of the most uncompromising road-legal 911s of its time, with total production limited to 682 cars worldwide.
All 996 GT3 RS examples were finished in Carrara White, distinguished by either red or blue racing script and matching wheels, a deliberate nod to Porsche’s classic Rennsport heritage. While Porsche never officially published a precise production split, long-standing enthusiast research and registry data indicate that cars with red decals were produced in greater numbers than those with blue, making the blue-accented cars the rarer of the two.
Completed in July 2004 and delivered new to Germany via Porsche Munich, this example is finished in the sole available colour, Carrara White, and specified with the rarer blue decals. Factory options include an Alcantara steering wheel, Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB), electric mirrors and windows, factory Recaro bucket seats, colour-matched blue seatbelts, Schroth racing harnesses, tinted top windscreen, on-board computer, electronic air conditioning, a white-painted safety cage, Porsche CD/radio, and headlight cleaning system.
Imported to the UK in 2017 and in current ownership since 2020, the car has been well maintained throughout its life and has had a recent service and new front and rear discs and pads, leaving it ready to drive and enjoy. It has also been upgraded with Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM Plus), a factory-developed infotainment system that integrates modern navigation, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and smartphone connectivity while retaining a period-correct appearance.
Widely regarded by enthusiasts as offering greater character and engagement than later models, this exceptionally rare and highly desirable first-generation GT3 RS would make a standout addition to any Porsche collection. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
