2003 VAUXHALL VX220

X220 2.2 Supercharged.

Ive had the car for the last 9 years, before I purchased it the car had been a Cat N project due to a damaged clam. They deemed that is was repairable, but uneconomical due to the cost of a new clam and as the damage didn’t involve structural failure the car was still allowed to be repaired. The Clam was replaced with a lightweight one from Jon Seal at Lotus Hardtops.

The car comes with both a red hardtop and a black soft top with its own soft top carrier (see pictures). Ideal in the summer to keep in the boot and use as a soft top unless the weather turns.

Mot is in place until 20.03.2026

The car has had a lot of work done and money spent on it in the last couple of years. After adding the supercharger I stopped chasing Horsepower and concentrated on drivability and chasing lap times via being able to brake later and harder, corner quicker and accelerate faster. A list of work I’ve had done in the last two years is listed below.

New Chains and water pump

New engine mounts

All ball joints and drop links, track rod ends etc

New adjustable GAS shocks all round

New wheel bearings and hubs all round

Upgraded discs and Carbontech race pads

Braided hoses all around

Spitfire Toe links

New Alternator

New Motec Lightweight wheels on AR1 tyres ( Cost £2k last year bit it now stops, corners and accelerates brilliantly)

Chris Tullett Exhaust system (loud and sweet but passes track day noise testing)

Stage 2 Supercharger and Dutch ECU fitted by Maxx 88 performance

Fully set up on rolling road for optimum performance (252 BHP and 222 Ft.lbs Torque)

Suspension fully set up and corner weighted (based on my body weight of 89kg) by race engineers

Front Splitter from Lotus Hardtops

Rear diffuser from Lotus Hardtops

Comes with a soft top and a hard top (see pics).

ABS on / Off switch

Fitted with reverse camera

Dodgy Standard light switches2k replaced by a full working set of aftermarket switches from Type 116 motorsport

Oil, filter and all other fluids replaced

There is no service book but many receipts for services and work done over the 9 years I have had it

All that said though if you’re looking for a show winner, keep looking, the pictures make the paintwork look better than it is, it could do with a bit of cosmetic TLC. So if you are looking for a winter project, a bit of tidying up will have you sorted for the spring.

But from a driving and performance point of view its awesome and ready to go. It is a weapon on track days and I’m only letting it go, as I now have an Ariel Atom so its not really being used anymore and I could do with the storage space.
