Service History
A rare and highly desirable UK-supplied Triumph TR5, first registered on 3rd May 1968, finished in timeless Triumph White (code 19) with a contrasting black interior. Produced for just 13 months between August 1967 and September 1968, the TR5 sits among the most coveted British sports cars of its era. With only 2,947 examples built worldwide—and just 1,161 supplied new in right-hand-drive to the UK—genuine home-market cars like this are increasingly hard to find. It perfectly blends Michelotti’s elegant styling with the performance and refinement of Triumph’s then-new 2.5-litre Lucas fuel-injected straight-six.This particular example, ‘TYP 922F’, is a matching-numbers, right-hand-drive UK car, equipped with the desirable four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. It is understood to have had just four custodians from new and has benefited from a comprehensive body-off restoration, fully documented with an extensive photographic record. More recently, the car has been further improved under current ownership, with a clear focus on reliability, integrity and long-term usability, rather than unnecessary modification.
Key mechanical upgrades have been sympathetically carried out using components from Racetorations of Lincoln, including Quaife rear hubs—a well-known weak point on TRs—along with uprated driveshafts, and poly-bushed suspension throughout. Parts alone total approximately £3,500, all professionally fitted, resulting in a TR5 that feels tight, composed and confidence-inspiring on the road while remaining true to its original character.
Inside, the cabin has been returned to factory-correct specification, featuring original TR5 seats retrimmed in black with white contrast piping, complemented by a correct TR5 steering wheel. The overall effect is a period-correct, beautifully detailed interior that feels both authentic and welcoming, perfectly in keeping with the car’s provenance.
On the road, the 2.5-litre Lucas-injected straight-six delivers strong, smooth and charismatic performance, accompanied by that unmistakable six-cylinder soundtrack. The overdrive gearbox transforms the driving experience, making the TR5 equally at home on fast A-roads as it is on long-distance touring.
The car will be supplied with its current UK V5C, a comprehensive history file including restoration photographs and invoices for recent work, and, as with all Classicwise sales, will receive a full service and fresh MOT prior to handover. Preparation will be carried out by marque specialists TR Enterprises, and the car will also be sold with 12 months’ membership to the TR Register.
A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine, UK-supplied TR5—beautifully restored, thoughtfully improved, and ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
