1996 TVR CHIMAERA

1996 TVR Chimaera 4.0, 67,000 miles, Starmist Blue with cream leather interior

This car was supplied new by the TVR Centre in Arkley on 20 February 1996 to a lady who kept it until her death in 2017, by which time it had covered 63,000 miles. It was then laid up until 2020, when it was serviced and MoT’d by Bespoke Performance before being sold on.

I acquired the car in May 2023, since which time it has benefitting from significant recommissioning as well as regular servicing, almost all carried out by the excellent TVR specialist Str8six in Oxfordshire. Work undertaken has included fitting new:

Bilstein sport suspension (shocks and springs)

Toyo Proxy tyres x 4

Rear brake calipers, pads and discs

Cylinder head gaskets and headbolts

Driveshaft CV joints x4

Steering rack universal joint

Accel ceramic lead set, distributor cap, rotor arm and vacuum advance

Fuel lines

Battery

MOT with no advisories until April 2026.

The car comes with two keys and its original owner’s handbook/service record, showing that it was maintained by the main dealer at Arkley until 1999. I also have various other bills from Bespoke (which took over the Arkley business) and others covering the original ownership as well as comprehensive history from 2020. I have been informed by specialists that the outriggers have been replaced although I do not have an invoice for that work. The paintwork is mostly very good, apart from a fine scratch on the boot lid and some loss on the mirrors, and the blue mohair hood is in good order, having been replaced around 2010.

Overall, a very useable and smart example with strong history that has some potential to be fettled further while being enjoyed by a new owner. It will be sold with the invaluable Steve Heath bible and a new TVR-MADS walnut veneer dashboard that I never got round to having fitted (the original one has some lifting and lacquer cracks but is still serviceable).
