Description
The Classic Car Company presents this stunning Porsche 930 Turbo in the UK launch colours of Guards Red over Black leather interior. This example received a full bare metal restoration in 2025, completed to a very high standard. The car now presents superbly, wants for nothing, and we boldly state that it is the very best on the UK market today!
This example is a later 3.3-litre car, the last year of the four-speed manual cars, with the later integrated fog-light design. The car was built in 1988, a C16 / UK-supplied spec in Guards Red with Black Leather interior. With 98,000 well-documented miles, still displaying its factory stickers and plates, the car has a fantastically detailed history and 2 fully stamped service books.
With many 930s displaying very well from their exterior, although lacking care and attention, they can often mask problems hiding underneath. This example was no different, purchased looking excellent on top but hiding rust underneath. So much so that when it was discovered by the current owner, he requested that the car have a full and comprehensive bare metal restoration in 2025. The exterior and body now present excellently on this example, both on top and underneath. Finished in this beautiful shade of Guards Red that it wore from the factory. All corrosion was cut out and repaired, including the kidney bowls, a weak point of many 911s of this era. The Black leather interior is the car's original and in really exceptional condition, with the seat, steering wheel and dash showing the condition of a car half its age. The soft carpets were recently replaced with a new set in 2026, and the car recently received an overhaul of the interior electronics to ensure everything works as it should. As you can expect, the car is in superb mechanical condition with the engine receiving a top-end rebuild in 2012 at 86,000 miles, and the gearbox being rebuilt by us in 2024 at 98,000 miles.
The 930 was developed as a homologation special for Group 4 and Group 5 racing in 1975. Featuring a turbocharged engine, it was revolutionary for the time being, 2 years before the first turbo F1 car. Having only needed to make 400, the 930 was so popular among enthusiasts that by May 1976, Porsche had built over 1,000. From 1978, the engine was upgraded to a 3.3 litre engine pushing 296 bhp, and the Turbo became a staple of the Porsche range.
The 930s are known for blending great performance and engineering. Their appeal is unique, being quite understated and almost sedate at low rpm. However, with a savage sledgehammer of a turbocharger, on boost, the car takes off like nothing else. Weighing just 1,300 kilos, the car has an excellent power-to-weight ratio and traction from the rear-mounted engine. The car was known to be quite tail-happy, especially when pushing on in the corners. With modern rubber, these cars are much more tractable and approachable.
The car features McPherson front suspension with A arms and wider semi-trailing arms at the rear, giving the car great road holding. The 930’s ventilated brakes were developed from the 917 and have excellent performance. The car features an unassisted rack and pinion steering, giving the car a great feel. The wheels are the iconic Porsche 16-inch forged Fuchs alloys. The tyres are Pirelli P Zero Rosso’s, dated to 2021 and are in really excellent condition.
The car comes with a huge folder full of paperwork documenting the car's history, with a spare wheel and a tool kit.
