EXTERIOR

This elegant and very desirable Mercedes-Benz R129 is the 300SL model which has covered just 24,472 miles from new. Finished in stunning and factory original Signal Red, (Code 568), the paintwork is immaculately presented with a deep glossy shine and uniform finish, entirely commensurate with a pampered garaged car of such remarkably low mileage. All panels are free from damage and the wheel arch apertures are spotlessly clean. The factory Black soft-top, (Code 740), is superb and damage free with the original Mercedes clear unmarked screens and excellent inner lining. The detachable coupe roof follows suit in being in excellent condition to the exterior and boasting a perfect headlining. Supplying dealer fitted number plates, windscreen stickers and even service labels in the door shuts remain. An exemplary example of the model that continued the maker’s repute for engineering excellence.

INTERIOR

High quality materials and first-class workmanship can be felt in every feature from the multi-contoured seats finished in full Beige leather, (Code 275), with matching door matching and colour matched interior environment. The leather is spotlessly clean and in fantastic condition with only very light markings to the driver’s side outer bolster. The pristine carpets have been protected from new by Mercedes-Benz carpet mats which themselves are beautifully clean. All controls and functions are fully operational including the optional stereo system. A garaged example away from harmful UV light, the fascia and beautiful wood trim is immaculate. Factory specified with rear child seats and seat belts for small people only, the rear seats fold down to create additional luggage space. The genuine Mercedes-Benz wind deflector is present in the storage case as is the Mercedes-Benz first aid kit. Ergonomically excellent and the ultimate grand tourer.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

This 300SL has the six-cylinder 2960cc engine producing 190bhp and 260Nm of torque. A top speed of 139mph and 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds is quoted in the manufacturer literature, and this impressive low mileage example feels wonderful to drive. The immaculate and unaltered engine bay displays factory build plates and bright stickers and is a real crowd pleaser being so spotlessly clean. The four-speed torque-converter automatic transmission operates perfectly and suits leisurely and enthusiastic driving alike with both sport and economy transmission modes.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

Cast light-alloy wheels in eight eight-hole design are in fantastic condition with no kerb damage. Brand new matching premium Michelin Primacy 225/55 R16 were fitted all-round in August 2025 and have covered zero miles. The full-size spare wheel remains fitted with the factory supplied Dunlop D40 tyre housed neatly in the boot area alongside the Mercedes tool roll, warning triangle, jack and even the delicate and often destroyed wheel changing instruction card! The standard ABS system with fixed calliper disc brakes front and rear offers reassurance having been overhauled in September 2025.

HISTORY FILE

Supplied new on the 25th March 1993 by Mercedes-Benz Main Dealer, Ciceley Continental Ltd of Preston, this beautiful and very desirable R129 300SL has covered mere 24,472 miles from new, fully warranted. Owned by serial car collector, Dr Lewis for 12 years and forming part of his low mileage classic car and motorbike collection. The original service booklet contains 11 Mercedes-Benz stamped entries, 10 of which are the supplying dealership. A 12th stamped entry relates to a major service in September 2025. Furthermore, the history file contains service invoices and all MOT certificates carried out dating back to the first in 1996. Completing the history file is the dealer supplied wallet with book pack and even the supplying dealer tax disc holder. An original sales brochure and specification pamphlet is included along with a genuine Mercedes magnetic GB plate in unopened packaging and touch-up pen. An established modern classic and fast becoming highly collectable and difficult to find, particularly as a low mileage preserved example offered here.
