MORRIS MINI COOPER 1275 S MK II, 1968
ALMOND GREEN, SNOWBERRY WHITE ROOF WITH GREEN & BROCADE INTERIOR TRIM
Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer this wonderfully original Morris Mini Cooper S Mk II with its original Downton-built tuned engine completed in 2019, finished in the iconic Almond Green with Snowberry white roof – perhaps the most classic and evocative Mini colour combination of all.
Registered in 1968, this Mini Cooper S Mk II represents the pinnacle of British small car engineering of the era. With its 1275cc A-series engine, twin SU carburettors, and front disc brakes, the Mk II offered genuine performance to match its legendary handling. With the experience gained from racing BMC-powered cars in Formula Junior competition, the engine developed amazing power for its size. Producing 76 bhp at 6,000 rpm and weighing under 700kg, the Cooper S could out-corner and out-run much larger rivals and quickly gained fame both on the road and rally stages. The Mk II featured a wider rear window, revised switches and improved seating amongst many other improvements.
This remarkable example is showing 17,300 miles and retains many correct factory details. The Mk II models also introduced several refinements over the original Mk I, including updated badging, a two-piece grille, and revised lighting. These subtle changes retained the charm of the original Mini while improving practicality and road manners.
Few cars evoke the same sense of fun and history as the original Cooper S and finding one in such low-mileage and well-preserved condition is a rare treat. With just four previous owners, this is a genuine piece of British motoring heritage; this Mini Cooper S Mk II is both a collector’s dream and a joy to drive.
Supplied new by Wadhams of Waterlooville in June 1968, our Mini Cooper S still retains its Dorset registration number. With restoration invoices (spanning 2016 - 2019) galore from the likes of Downton Motor Engineering, Moss and Somerford, it also has its original Cooper S Mk II catalogue and a driver’s handbook. This car is 10 feet and a ¼ inch (3.05m) of pure fun and is a Mini Cooper S that is ready to be enjoyed. An ideal way to enjoy classic motoring.
